This one of those "classics" that I rarely think about or revisit. I'm not sure why, it's a good song.

Yeah, maybe that's why. Live versions have lost the intensity and I rarely listen to Vs..tragabigzanda wrote:the live version has really watered down its impact over the years. Most of their songs of torture have gradually been repositioned as songs of triumph. Live versions of RVM now don't do much for me, but earlier versions and the studio cut still slay.Monkey_Driven wrote:This one of those "classics" that I rarely think about or revisit. Generally, if I'm in the mood to hear stuff from Vs I tend to reach for bootlegs rather than the record. And while my favorite RVM version (whichever it might be) is probably somewhere in those shows from the 2000 tour, I'm always blown away by how great the studio cut is whenever I happen to put it on.

I got pulled over going 110 in a 65 while listening to this song. My friend and I were driving to the St Louis 03 show. It was our first pearl jam show and we were late - we got to our seats just as sleight of hand started.

I had first heard RVM as a live version on a bootleg. When I finally heard the studio version, I was blown away.
Keep on rockin’ in the free world.

One of the best songs ever made by anyone. It's one of my favorite riff to play on the guitar.
