hahah they are the EXACT same drum take by the EXACT same drummer. you have matt-derangement syndrome, bro.
the only difference in the instrumental is the lost dogs version is slightly slower.
this is both versions panned left and right, with the lost dogs version sped up. i call it "pearl jam - youse".

Why are you wasting time and effort arguing about U/You? Possibly the worst song in the catalog

I also don’t agree that Matt is on the Lost Dogs version and not the b-side. The drums are exactly the same. I actually don’t think Matt is on it at all. The fills sound much more like Jack fills than Matt fills and the whole groove of the tune swings more like Jack than Matt.
Lost Dogs version is the same B-side instrumental, but with a new vocal, and then remixed.
Hmm. I don’t think I’ve heard about the new vocal for LD before. And honestly, I wasn’t even listening to that part of it. I was more focused on the instrumentation.
the music is the same than in the single but the vocals and lyrics are different. The U single is about being in love while the LD is the breakup song.

Its pretty brilliant.
I’m gonna have to do this back-to-back thing again. I’ve never noticed this.
I talked about this ad nauseum when LD first came out. It didn't get much traction then either.
The only thing I remember talking about around that time was people thinking Dave A played on Hold On because the liner notes said it was recorded during the Vs sessions. It was obvious it was Krusen just by listening but some couldn’t accept the liner notes could be wrong.
We're talking about U/You, not Hold On!
Sad is the best song on LD and probably the best song they ever kept off an album.

I literally listened to them back to back on YouTube and the drumming sounded noticeably different but now I'm questioning my ears and sanity.

OK listened to them again on YT and while the sound of the drums is quite different (remaster? different upload quality?) you're absolutely right - same drumming. Well well well.

The drumming on U I’ve always loved, the vocals not to much. Eddie seems sleepy on it.

Amongst the Waves is not a song that warrants a strong opinion. Future Days is the worst Pearl Jam song - there's no question about it.
