Re: The everyone LOVES radiohead thread!
got the Bends (not soulseek) it was on a tracker; the sound is amazing.
The new Radiohead OK Computer sessions is great companion to the MiniDisc set. I love the complete takes (the first tracks are brilliant); it's a bit frustrating to hear these snippets (I wish a fan mix could have been done using the Karma Police outro which is amazing (and perhaps the MiniDisc "basic track" as a main track ?).
the other snippets with just the vocals and the piano reminds me John Lennon's "Sexy Sadie". And I don't know why but the coda/outro of Karma Police makes me think of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" - both are great.
Karma Police ("complete") ("fan edit" using the 2 snippets (laughing intro and outro (I like even better the outro than the original album version which ends a bit like the vacuum cleaner sound (Moog?) by The Beatles on I Want You She's So Heavy) :

Radiohead is a cautionary tale of when an exceptional guitar band decides they'd be better off noodling around on synths and laptops. Like, hey how about we only do what we're second best at.

Radiohead have very little music that is actually like this. Even Kid A and Amnesiac have a lot of guitar- and piano/keyboard-based songs on them.lvc wrote:Radiohead is a cautionary tale of when an exceptional guitar band decides they'd be better off noodling around on synths and laptops.
That said, what's the "cautionary tale," exactly -- add some electronics into the mix and you'll become the most critically adored band on the planet?

It's so offensive, it negates the many songs with nothing but guitar and/or piano automatically.
It's a cautionary tale about not challenging mainstream rawk aficionados.Kevin Davis wrote: Radiohead have very little music that is actually like this. Even Kid A and Amnesiac have a lot of guitar- and piano/keyboard-based songs on them.

Pearl Jam went through the same issue when they allowed Matt Cameron to write songs, like he did for Soundgarden with no issues.
The butt-hurt is palpable.

I went through periods of sort of reflexively rejecting Radiohead, but when I remove my head from my butt, turns out they are really great.

Now I have a hankering to hear Hater or Wellwater Conspiracy cover Kid A front to back.Happy Trees wrote:Pearl Jam went through the same issue when they allowed Matt Cameron to write songs, like he did for Soundgarden with no issues.

At least they're still a band. I hope for a tour. They may have been at their best in 2018 - a surprising detail for a 25+ year old band.
