Love the random thoughts/observations. There are definitely snakes, I got bit/poisoned by a rattlesnake during a bounty hunt just west of Annesburg (I think). I shot it afterward.

Thought I might enjoy playing a bit as John after the end of the story, but I put in maybe an hour or two before knocking it on the head. Just felt kind of empty. Collecting $25 bounties with $20k in the bank isn’t much of a draw. Time to move on.

Yeah. I just wasn’t into it anymore. Like I helped the wildlife photographer and told him I was a friend of Arthur’’s. That was weird. I went into St. Denis and kept accidentally running lightly into people and getting put on the wanted list. Then I embraced being a shit heel and would just murder out on the trails, but that felt icky. Did one bounty. Collected $25. I’m just not into hunting. Treasure hunting might be cool with some coordinates, but I don’t recognize landmarks. I even went to Thieves Landing and was unsatisfied by that. Even open worlds need stories and quests for me to maintain interest. I spent countless hours in Zelda collecting ingredients to make upgrades for all the outfits and then never wore any of them.zeb wrote:Do you mean after the epilogue storyline finishes?
I’m glad I stuck with this game and saw the story through. I don’t know how many hours I put in, but it was enough to feel satisfied with the experience. I’ve moved on. I’ve got gaming plans for the year.

All fair enough.
I squeezed the lemon until its last drop: Finished the epilogue and then made sure I triggered every quest and random encounter across the entire map, checked out all the points of interest, cleaned up the legendary hunts I hadn't already completed and prayed in vain that a DLC would come along soon.

I honestly thought that the epilogue was going to just run into RDR1 and I was about to play through the entirety of that game again. Would've been cool

I’m not breaking new ground here, but this is one of the greatest games ever made. Not my favorite, but it’s like 99% polished, very few quibbles. It makes me excited for GTA VI if they can get rid of some of the cringe from earlier games.

Onto Act IV. I had strolled through St Denis early in the game to get a bounty, but after exploring it a bit, I wish I had waited. It’s such a stark contrast to the rest of the game. After road back to camp after a few missions, riding out into the wilderness, I literally felt like I was getting fresh air.

Yeah the immersion can be real heavy as you move from area to area. The sound design and score are exceptional.

I think what I missed with my first solo visit was Dutch’s musings about how awful the city is, then you get in on your horse and it’s so hard to navigate the streets. You immediately become a man out of time.
The atmosphere of the final battle with the Braithewates is also fantastic.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2
I save after I complete every mission—it’s a compulsive thing I do, and to also make sure I’ve got a couple of save files in case one of the kids deletes one—and that made it that much clearer that from the moment you step into the cave with Dutch on Guarma to the moment you defeat the Pinkertons with the Gatling gun north of St Denis, there’s a solid hour and a half of gameplay where you cannot save at all. This drove me crazy.
