This article does a good job of explaining how corporations use their media lackeys and a handful of trolls (often astroturfed) to market their slop (a media/troll marketing complex, if you will), though in my opinion this stopped working on anyone but the most sub-80 IQ megafans years ago, and only now are the corporations like Disney starting to realize it:

Re: ITT dimejinky99 vomits random Star Wars thoughts
The fandom isn't any more toxic now than it was in the past. The same conversations were happening in smelly conventions and comic book shops in the 80's and 90's. Social media just amplifies it. I have no way of proving this but I reckon its the same percentage now as then. I'll put it this way. Think back if you will to 1989. If you were alive and at a certain age that was an odd year for movies. Perhaps the first year you found yourself a little disappointed. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Back to the Future Part II, Batman, The Abyss, Lethal Weapon 2, Ghostbusters II, License to Kill, Kickboxer, Black Rain, Tango & Cash and Road House. Maybe you liked all those moves...maybe you loved them....but things were slightly off. You had problems with your favorite franchises and actors and creative teams for the first time. They were just not quite as good as you hoped. You and your friends could complain but it never left that room. Imagine there was an internet as it exists today. It'd be the same.

Oscar Isaac, huh? YouTube told me he hated Disney and Star Wars and never wanted to have anything to do with them ever again under any circumstances.

I guess they get paid a fair bit for appearing at these things but a free trip to Japan?
Who wouldn’t take it? I would. My brother lives there. Would love to do some time.
