Hearthstone

Post by washing machine »

New to the game but getting the hang of it, slowly. I'm going to finish this month at Bronze 4. I downloaded the mobile version in mid January and spent some time in the tutorial before going into the rankings.

I'm sure many of you (elo sailor) have way more experience with this massive game. What's the single best piece of advice you could give a new player?

Side note -- there seems to be a bug in the latest HS/Android update that has deleted the names from the cards. Very annoying for a new learner. I can see what cards do, but I don't have a name to go along with them for reference.

I played it a bunch ~10 years back. It's a very well made game, but I got bored of the meta settling on 2-3 viable decks every patch that everyone would copy. "Net-decking" I think they called it.

What class are you playing? I thought Shaman was pretty cool.

I don't want to be that guy that starts with mage and never evolves, but I've got the most wins off that class so far.

I really want to like priest but I haven't fully figured it out yet.

Shaman is cool with the totems, but I haven't played enough with it yet to speak definitively about it. I'll give it a few more tries. What do you like about that class?

Thankfully I'm not ambitious enough to really care about the meta changing. I just want to have fun and exercise my brain. Weird that I'm getting into deck building at age 40 but whatever. It's a great way to unwind for 30 minutes at a time.

Also, Pokemon TGC Pocket and Slay the Spire are starting to scratch that same itch.

Have you heard of Inscryption, Reid?

That was one of my favorite recent deck builders. It has a really cool meta story to go along with a strong deck building game.

I think I just liked his aesthetic. Also, his overload mechanic was interesting, where you could over-spend mana one turn but would have to wait to recover in the turn following. And yeah, the totems are cool little meatshields.

Plus, he wasn't overly popular or seen as very strong, so every win felt deserved. I am a bit of a hipster when it comes to games, because I hate seeing flavor of the month shit over and over. It really kills my interest. And I'm a totally unique snowflake.

This was a long time ago, so I'm sure the game has changed a lot since I touched it, but it's remarkably polished and worth picking up.

Cool assessment. I'm finding out that my play style favors control decks. I love a slow paced, chess-like game when the minions start feeling like a puzzle. Paladin has been giving me some good wins lately with this style. Only problem with this type of play is that about 25% of my wins so far are opponents rage quitting when I start trading for board control deep in the game.

If I'm pressed for time, I've started playing with a Warrior deck, but win rate on that one isn't very high yet because my cards aren't that strong.

My gaming is limited to what's in the Android store, but that game looks fun. Mail me an xbox and I'll play.

Lost a tough one recently because I was quick to hit "end turn" after spending my clock playing the right cards and forgetting I had minions who could attack.

Took me back down to silver 10.

I'm getting the hang of this game. I could easily beat ello with my weakest deck at this point, which would be a spell-driven Hunter deck.

The deck I use most often is a Druid deck with a lot of taunt cards. Ello would stand no chance.
