Re: ITT: We retrack Lightning Bolt
I might try something like this:
1. My Father's Son
2. Getaway
3. Mind Your Manners
4. Lightning Bolt
5. Infallible
6. Sirens
7. Pendulum
8. Swallowed Whole
9. Let the Records Play
10. Sleeping By Myself
11. Yellow Moon
12. Future Days
I only have 2 minor complaints about the tracklisting.
1) I'm not a big fan of the intro to Getaway and I don't see it as a worthy intro to the whole album. MFS might not make the best intro but I'm gonna give it a try. I still like the way MYM comes blasting in after Getaway so I wouldn't want to rearrange that.
2) Sirens just hits way too early and the transition from MFS to Sirens is the most jarring and abrupt transition on the album. Infallible sounds too nice after LB to split them up, so I would push Sirens down to 6 and see how that works. I'm interested to try this out now.

Haven't retracked this thing, but I'm listening to it on random for the first time.
So far, Getaway > Sirens > Yellow Moon > Pendulum. YM to Pendulum kinda works, and I bet the opposite would too.

Re: ITT: We retrack Lightning Bolt
I'm finding it hard to fit Mind Your Manners between any two songs other than Getaway and My Father's Son. And, after much listening, I don't think it even sits very well in that spot. Kind of annoying as I do like the song.
I'm enjoying this list a lot atm. Only thing missing is a slightly extended outro on Pendulum.
1. Getaway
2. My Father's Son
3. Lightning Bolt
4. Infallible
5. Let the Records Play
6. Sirens
7. Swallowed Whole
8. Yellow Moon
9. Pendulum

Re: ITT: We retrack Lightning Bolt
The start of MYM makes it difficult to move around. Hard starts can be tough. In The Moonlight is another hard song to track. Those kinds of songs either have to be first, come in after a long fade out or follow a song with a hard stop.

Re: ITT: We retrack Lightning Bolt
That's true. Adding some gaps before and/or after the track might help. Must have another stab at it later.

Re: ITT: We retrack Lightning Bolt
i discovered this via shuffle, but MYM into Getaway is better than Getaway into MYM. The start of Getaway comes right out the last living hell in a pretty great way

Re: ITT: We retrack Lightning Bolt
I'll have to try that out. That intro to Getaway still bothers me. Believe it or not, but it's the only part of the album that I'm still not completely warmed up to... although the song overall has grown on mestip wrote:i discovered this via shuffle, but MYM into Getaway is better than Getaway into MYM. Re: ITT: We retrack Lightning Bolt
Okay guys, this is it. This is THE tracklist. It works on every level
1. Mind Your Manners
2, Getaway
3. My Father's son
4. Swallowed Whole
5. Infallible
6. Yellow Moon
7. Pendulum
8. Let the Records Play
9. Sleeping By Myself
10. Lightning Bolt
11. Sirens
12. Future Days
The only thing I go back and forth on is whether I want LTRP or Sleeping By Myself following Pendulum. Either order works. If there wasn't a fade in to LTRP I'd actually start the record with it.

Re: ITT: We retrack Lightning Bolt
So, people who retrack, do you listen to it as such after you have finalized your re-tracked sequence? or is it an on occasion sort of thing?
It would feel like cheating to me to commit to a different track-list then what the band had put out there.

Re: ITT: We retrack Lightning Bolt
It's not a fade-in as much as a widdly guitary bit. I think it would be fine to start the album if it was a better song, like 'Go'. Too many people would bin the album if it started with LTRP.stip wrote:Okay guys, this is it. This is THE tracklist. It works on every level

That said, I'm listening to that order now. It's going well so far.

I'm the same. I've got an alternative playlist on iTunes which I play around with, and it makes me sad that it's not the album.Strat wrote:So, people who retrack, do you listen to it as such after you have finalized your re-tracked sequence? or is it an on occasion sort of thing?

I meant fade out, excuse me. The issue is that it's an ugly transition into MYM. Too soon on the record for a fade out, especially since MYM has a hard start.

Re: ITT: We retrack Lightning Bolt
I have never actually retracked an album with the intention of listening to it that way, so I'm not sure. I think I'd go back and forth.Strat wrote:So, people who retrack, do you listen to it as such after you have finalized your re-tracked sequence? or is it an on occasion sort of thing?

Re: ITT: We retrack Lightning Bolt
Oh OK, yeah that makes sense. Also, the problem with splitting up LB and Infallible is that the fade-in is chopped. Doesn't sound great. But if you can ignore that transition, the songs work in the positions you've put them.stip wrote:harmless wrote:It's not a fade-in as much as a widdly guitary bit. If nothing else, retracking these songs can sometimes make you look at them in a different light, and sometimes they grow on you that way.

I gave my playlist a good listen out on a walk, and it's the real deal. I encourage everyone to start using this one.
