Re: Pearl Jam WEEK on Jimmy Fallon
For the most part people agreed he was struggling. The debate was whether it was fatigue from the shows or a lack of inherent capacity.
Probably a bit of both

shezalightnin bawlt! If he's struggling, it's because it's a clunky, cumbersome song. bleh.

I mean, that's always why people have vocal troubles, right?BurtReynolds wrote:shezalightnin bawlt! If he's struggling, it's because it's a clunky, cumbersome song. bleh.

People always mention this and I never hear it, what does he mess up?Habitman wrote:One of his most iconic (maybe the most) performances was flubbed.Release_Me wrote:Flubbing lyrics doesn't really affect how the vocals sound, but they do have a lot to do with the overall appreciation of the song. I love that lightning bolt performance last night. It gave me a greater appreciation for one of my lesser favourites on the album. Fantastic!
Meanwhile, Sirens is on my top tracks on LB and I felt let down by the performance. Although it did pick up towards the end (after the guitar switch).

I think it's way easier for up-tempo songs to translate into these types of television performances, though, both in terms of playing and watching them.

It was a good performace of a clunky cumbersome song, which is the best we could have hoped for. Minus hoping for suprise! Badass b-side, or something.BurtReynolds wrote:shezalightnin bawlt! If he's struggling, it's because it's a clunky, cumbersome song. bleh.
It does baffle me that so many of these newer fast songs are so wordy, anyone singing it is gonna sound like a mushmouth. Add in pjs love for speeding shit up and well....

Yeah. When Fallon says "SIREEENS!!!!!" in his excruciatingly excited voice, and then they play a ballad, it's kind of a buzzkill.digster wrote:I think it's way easier for up-tempo songs to translate into these types of television performances, though, both in terms of playing and watching them.

I really love seeing the band on a smaller stage like that compared to the big touring stage. FEels more intimate and makes them look and sound more like a garage band.

Naw I mean in general. The liklihood of ed knocking these songs out of the park night after night is greatly decreased when theres so much words and theyre playing em that fast id imagine. Im talking out my ass though maybe ed finds it easier/more fun.harmless wrote:The song wasn't sped up at all for this performance!stupidmop wrote:It was a good performace of a clunky cumbersome song, which is the best we could have hoped for. I think it's more that you don't really have that atmosphere you can get from hearing a slow song done in a theater or arena; you're basically just watching them stand still and do a song on television, and your interest on it will likely depend on your interest in the song. With the more up tempo stuff, you have the visual energy of the performance to latch onto.evenslow wrote:yeah the slow stuff doesn't utilize the band enough.digster wrote:I think it's way easier for up-tempo songs to translate into these types of television performances, though, both in terms of playing and watching them.
