Conclave

This was very, very good. Great performances and strikingly shot. That said, it never quite felt like a movie deserving of a Best Picture Oscar (I’m referring more to my ideal of that award versus what it’s currently become with way too many nominees and several unworthy films). Probably not a fair criticism but one I felt nonetheless.

I don't know why I didn't think I'd ever look at this one, but I did a week or so ago. I had already read dime's spoiler of the big twist. I kept waiting for it to happen, and thinking it applied to every new leading contender. When it finally happened, I thought it was really lame (not a surprise). I enjoyed the tension and the politics of most of the movie but the last twist was garbage. It was unnecessary and I really can't figure out what it added. Doesn't quite ruin the movie for me but does make me go

Conclave. I really enjoyed this, loved how pulpy it felt. The easy pleasures of a tawdry airport paperback. Great performances. Cool sets.

Also I liked the ending

Papal conclaves are one of my special interests, and I liked this one. I hadn’t read or heard anything about it before watching. Jorge’s description is spot-on.
