Nice work, peeps. Bench press? I doubt I could bench 100 pounds right now.

yes, flat bench. my goal for tonight was to get 250 for 5 reps. i started off with 185X10, 225 X 8, put on 15 more for 240 and 6 reps and figured what the hell, lets try +30

if i can just manage to convince myself i can do it instead of thinking mid reps, i shouldnt be able to do this...

5 miles in 29 minutes

I have been jonesin' for some speedwork, so I hit the gym. When I got there, I changed my mind and did a fast tempo run instead. 5 sub-6s was the task. Millions of Dead Cops was the perfect soundtrack. I blew by the first 4 miles, but started to struggle on mile 5. I actually slowed down the treadmill when I realized I had a 30 minutes in the bag. I was pretty happy, but then realized I didn't increase the incline at all before I started, making the whole thing a useless exercise in mediocrity. :|

:? I did the same distance in 46 minutes today. I found an intermediate marathon training program and decided I'd start it this week and follow it as much as my schedule allows through February. It seems pretty close to the same schedule I tried to do for my marathon, but I fucked that up badly, mainly, I think, because I pushed too hard early. This thing said to do 5 miles at an easy pace, so this time I took it easy. Today I will do 3 easy miles. What I hate about the commitment to running is that weights fall by the wayside. I have a family, so I don't have time to spend multiple hours in the gym. I guess I will need to do pushups at home.

I took that cardio/core class again last night. I think I like that as a light workout. The cardio half gets a good sweat going and core half is a quick upper body burst that's tough for those 20 minutes but a fast recovery so it doesn't feel that taxing after the fact.
Been doing really well at the gym lately; I've been keeping my schedule and have increased both my weights and treadmill speed the past couple weeks.

Tomorrow morning the wife and I are doing one of those mud runs that are moulded around the traditional army obstacle courses. This ones not as big as tough mudder (only 10km), but should be fun. I'm not sure how I'm going to go though, considering I haven't been able to do much training or running since my surgery in June.

I'll update here after the race sometime tomorrow.

15 miles in 1:49

Increased my mileage this morning. 15 is my new 10. I took no water or gel and that was a mistake. Was hoping to finish in 1:45 or under, but I really started suffering with a couple of miles left. 52 out. 57 back with no finishing kick. It's also getting too cold to go shirtless. :?

Good luck, Sarge!

Good luck with this one Sarge - I've always wanted to give something like this a go.

Thanks guys. All done and dusted now. Pretty knackered, but had a ball. On our way to collect the kids, then home. Will update more later.

5-mile hike + 21 miles in 2:56

A hike with my son, then the wife picked him up and I ran back to the house. The run started well, but it reached 90+ degrees today and the heat got to me. Downed both handhelds full of water and ate 3 gels, then darted in a Circle K to refill my bottles. No finishing kick because I was totally fucking wasted.

The boy killed the hike as expected and he also spent some time bouldering various rock formations. This kid's gonna be running trails with me in a couple of years.

Tried a pace run on the treadmill today. 5 miles. 35:45. The good news is June is far away. The bad news is I did not have another mile in me at that pace. Tomorrow I am aiming for 8 leisurely miles. I haven't run that far since June, I think. It will be crisp, but I'll be taking it outside.

I have never done yoga. I'd love to try, but time, cost, and the fear that I'd crack a fat with all the yoga pants asses keep me from giving it a go.

It does seem kind of time consuming. Care to shed some light on that, Strat?
