Take the Long Way is severely underrated. Might be my favorite on Gigaton.

Can someone explain what's so special about Dave A drumming?Sloppy Dupree wrote:Somebody’s gotta convince that Matt is better than Jack or Dave A.
His drumming on Vitalogy is the most uninspired drumming i've ever heard from any rock drummer, there's no interesting drum lines, no fills, nothing. Just the same beat all over again and again and again. Meh
How you even compare this

I got the impression that most people prefer dave a drumming because of its simplicity, and don't like Matt's fancy drumming

This place has a pretty awful Dave A fetish.

I prefer Dave A on first three PJ album material. After that, give me Matt. And I’m more of an all around fan of Matt than I am DA.

Re: Matt Cameron Appreciation Thread
it is entirely possible I have Dave A at the top of the list because his albums produced so many of my favorite songsBuby wrote:Oh man, don't get them started!taffer wrote:Can someone explain what's so special about Dave A drumming?Sloppy Dupree wrote:Somebody’s gotta convince that Matt is better than Jack or Dave A.

The drummer thing is more about your favourite era of PJ than it is about the drummers themselves.

Good take.zeb wrote:The drummer thing is more about your favourite era of PJ than it is about the drummers themselves.
Ten is awesome, of course. But their best? Nah.
Not even top 3. And it's over-played AF.
Loved Vs when it came out, love it today.
But from Vitalogy onwards is where PJ's creativity really shines.
Also from No Code onwards they bust open their range.
I think they're a much more interesting sounding band today.

And threads specifically about Matt Cameron always turn into I Don't Get His Songs and by the way Bring Back Dave A.zeb wrote:The drummer thing is more about your favourite era of PJ than it is about the drummers themselves.

Re: Matt Cameron Appreciation Thread
All of their drummers have been talented, Krusen through to Cameron.
I prefer Matt to all of them due to my strong Soundgarden/Cameron bias, but I think his contribution to PJ musically has been stronger than all the others. More people would no doubt agree with that if he had also played on Vitalogy or No Code.

Re: Matt Cameron Appreciation Thread
Always a matter of personal taste
In retrospect, part of why I relish the Dave A era so much likely has to do with the groove-orientation and Ed's much better sounding voice
but I love Jack era
And Matt C is one of the most special musical people in my personal planet
But I prefer Matt with Soundgarden. My PJ brain is wired more toward the Dave A-style and the adjustment the band went through with increasing Matt influence (perhaps peaking with Avocado) is not one that makes my brain that happy.
but as a live drummer, I doubt any of the others could handle PJ's needs physically at this point (which is ultimately what led to Jack stepping away)
I don't know how they can tour at all at this age honestly. it's very impressive. And it sounds like Matt has very strong positive professionalism influence on the band which is likely a key to its longevity in the post-98 period.
