Hatfield wrote:Cool story Bammer. What are some other memorable PT's for people. Suprising to me was the Present Tense from the Ed Sullivan Theater show. Present Tense seems a subtler version of Pearl Jam's power and one that only a diehard fan would really fall for. That version from 2006 gave me such a sense of connection to the song, the fans, the 10 years since I first heard it. It lived up to all that Present Tense can be.
yep this was a great one.

FYI, at the end of the Bill Simmons pod from today he ends it with a live Present Tense from the '06 tour in Chicago.

I had this at 3 stars, which was too low. Must have been cranky that day. Upgraded to 4.

What is Eddie singing/moaning during the outro?

I don’t think we’re ever gonna know. Are they played backwards? The only word I think I can hear is “see.”

This is my fav. PJ song. For a year or two there it was RVM, but it has been PT for about 20 years now.

Thank you for coming to my Ed Talk.

I’m listening to that album now and it’s got some good stuff. The first half is mostly punk. There’s also a Brad song and the DiFranco/Gossard song.

Is there any Bad Nerves on that album. They're a damn good band. Pleased that Loosegroove picked them up as their last label let them down. Tremendous live as well.

new version of present tense on ‘the last of us ep’. more stripped down, new vocals from eddie (sounds great - has some of the vocal tics of the modern era). overall treated like a live version.

not going to replace the original, but really liked it

also seems important to point out that the lite video playing on spotify as you listen incorporates art from Lightning Bolt.

Catastrophic decision to use 1996 Ed's vocals in the first verse and 2025 Ed's for the rest of the song.

It's a jarring comparison to say the least.

I like the sound of the acoustic guitar on the new version

Yeah, it's very unflattering for latter-day Ed. He sounds so forced and overwrought compared to the first verse

Thank you for this reportage. Now I can save the 4 minutes of my life I might have spent sampling this.
