Holy fuck The Monkey was completely bonkers. Felt like one of those amazing direct to video horror movies i used to rent as a kid. Movie is fun, gory, weird, campy and looks stunning.

Saw it and agree with everything you said. The similarity to Ex Machina reminds me of the similarities between The Matrix and eXistenZ.

Definitely bonkers, like Don Coscarelli directing a Final Destination film.

"Presence" was fucking great

my one knitpick is, I would've preferred fades between scenes rather than quick cuts

"Wolf Man"

I really enjoyed it and teared up once or twice, a solid 3.5/5

Started Nosferatu last night but feel asleep half way through. Just wasn't working for me.

I can understand that

it is a bit slight (no big impact art), and it's saying what it's saying very simply, but I resonate with what it's saying; this is a movie with some mass appeal and a small storytelling scope and that's OK sometimes (and it helps that I love "single location" slice of life movies)

so I think this movie had a ceiling for my enjoyment right away, but it certainly didn't disappoint me after reading lots of middling reviews

and, I don't know, I found the scenes where the family literally couldn't understand each other anymore really heartbreaking; I've experienced that level of vulnerability (albeit not as a werewolf, afaik)

a film doesn't have to be telling me something "new" if it's telling me something I know well in an emotionally resonant way

I was a bit premature with my review of this one, since I wasn't at the end yet

I'm still glad it exists even in its imperfect form, it had some great ideas, but it got pretty meandering / boring at times, I'd like to have known more about characters, and man, I wish they'd stop making villains transfem-coded (didn't need the dress)

"Companion" was a fun time with more insight into incel-dom and more character twists than I was expecting; it would have been even better if the film's thesis on women's power hadn't been so reductive ("intelligence")

Yeah I agree. I had fun with it but there was something missing to it.
Spoiler: show
I did loved the story between the gay friend and his robot. It was cute.

yeah that was great, definitely wasn't expecting it, and we don't usually get that sort of look at different ways of interacting with the robot

yeah i also love how dark the whole thing was when the guys from the company figured what was happening because ¨people are fucking crazy with these, they chained them to their basements and stuff¨.

It was so fucking dark.
