I'm writing a Pearl Jam poem: What to include?
I've been asked to write a poem about Pearl Jam for an anthology. The anthology basically involves two poems which 'face-off' against each other on opposite pages. I'm doing Pearl Jam, and another poet is doing Nirvana. That's our face-off: PJ vs. Nirvana.
So RMers, I need your help: if you were going to read the definitive piece of creative writing about your (once) favourite band, what would you include? What are the absolutely essential elements that no PJ poem could possibly do without? What details would really help present them in the right light?
Go.
Edit: I will try to acknowledge the help of Red Mosquito forum members in the book. Bit of an incentive maybe.

Maybe include the Red Hot Sound Jam connection. How the Chili Peppers / Soundgarden / PJ are all intertwined.
Talk about the drummers too and the different sounds they brought to the table.

How to connect Mookie Blaylock with demos and then Ten. Someone geeky needs to join those dots for me.

Can you rhyme "loss of agency" with "Dave Abbruzzese"?
Sounds like an interesting premise for poetry though.

I don't think so, considering they don't rhyme.Fuzzcharger wrote:Can you rhyme "loss of agency" with "Dave Abbruzzese"?

Re: I'm writing a Pearl Jam poem: What to include?
I was just thinking about Pearl Jam and Nirvana this morning....no, seriously. For some reason a line from some place or other popped into my head about Vitalogy. It was the observation that, even when he desperately wants to push you away, Ed can't seem to stop himself from inviting you in, checking to see if you need anything. I don't remember if that came from a review, an interview, or from someone on this board. But it certainly illustrates one of the differences between those two bands.

do a mock pearl jam vs. nirvana stand off thing, as if the bands were talking/fighting/rap or/and battling of the bands-ing with each other...But the "dialogue" could only be lines from their songs, or obvious elements from lines of their songs.

if the phrase "return to form" is not included at least twice, I will regard the poem as a failure.
