No, its about a very sleazy and horrible dude who is also very charming and goes from place to place ruining others people´s life.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I thought the same about Anora but based on the speeches of those who made the film last night, we're both wrong.

How come? i dont remember the speeches really. I remember Sean thanking the sex worker´s community and thats because they played an integral part on the production. Most of the actresses in the movie are axctually sex workers and Madison did a lot fo reasearch with them.

Again, thats something Baker does with every one of his movies ( he worked with the porn community in Starlet and Red Rocket, the trans community in Tangerine, etc)

Feels like, given what I think this movie is about, there was an opportunity to talk about those issues/themes during the many speeches given on behalf of the film. But the only aspect everyone brought up was sex work (which is fair enough given everything you and Jorge have said about Baker and his process and this film). Just seemed silly and myopic to me in the moment. And because I don't think the movie deserved some of its awards, I'm just razzing them a bit.

This movie The Brutalist is very long and very dull. It's well over 3 hours long and nothing really happens in that time. (They do eventually get a building built, I think) The movie also contains blatant repugnant actions from the characters such as antisemitism, "classism", rape and sexual assualt of both men and women, and a bit of glamorous Hollywood heroin addiction to make it cool and hip for the kids. This movie made me ponder why films are so extreme these days. Why are movies either 3 and half hours long, pretentious, serious, challenging, and painful or an hour and a half of fairies, unicorns, rainbows, diversity, and inclusiveness? What happened to the middle ground where 99.9% of us live?
