No, I don't agree with that either--I didn't say that, did I? I would cite "Fatal," "Nothing As It Seems," "Strangest Tribe," and "Sleight of Hand," to name just a few, as examples of songs that are both masterfully written on a skeletal "music and lyrics" level but are equally evocative as mood pieces, as vehicles for the band to stake out a certain atmospheric space and play around with the sonic canvas.

Personally I think "Of The Girl" and "Pendulum" are both doing some pretty interesting things in the rhythm department, and the way the rhythms segue between sections. So maybe that's 2 things this song is doing well?

Sure--I mean, in pieces, there are many things this song does well. And of course no song is going to be a showcase for everything the band does well, simply because it would be extremely rare for some of those things (like the ferocious rip of "Brain of J" and the desolate drone of "Dead Man," for example) to exist within the scope of the same song. I think I just meant that this song was more of a showcase for sonics, whatever that entails, than for songcraft, and that in most cases the "five star" material--that truly uppermost echelon, that top 5% of their material--brings both of those things to the table in some form.
Yep, I agree. What it mostly does is evoke a mood.

5 stars is a rating I give to the songs which I love. There are quite a few Pearl Jam songs (30-40) which get that rating from me and Pendulum is one of them. Within this list of 5 star songs, I have my own rankings. So Pendulum is a 5 star song but is not ranked as high as some of the other 5 star songs owing mainly to the fact that it's too short.
Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

This is false. If it is a five star song, it has exactly the same rating as the other five star songs--five stars.

Unless any numbered score is a spectrum.

Are you trying to say Release_Me is in denial about Pendulum not being a 5* song for him?

5 stars is the rating I give to songs I love. There are many songs I love and I also like to rank them in order. I posted in the 5 star songs thread a while ago. There are 35 songs in my 5 star list, ranked from 1-35. They all have the same rating; 5 stars.
Pearl Jam is the only band I'll spend money on.

Did you ever imagine making this post in a Lightning Bolt song thread in the months leading up to its release?

Pendulum is among the bands greatest released recordings. A self produced double length album would suit my needs rather well!

I still find the studio version difficult to enjoy due to the production but the live version from Pittsburgh is top fucking notch. That's how it should've sounded.
