Pretty good interview. It was funny that the interviewer was at a show without evenflow and asked about it. I don't know if its been common knowledge that ed takes past setlists into account when writing the nights set, but its cool that he does.

I remember we were at the MTV VMAs, and I just jumped over the seats, and I said [to Cobain], "Hey, I heard you and Ed might be doing a record some day. I'd love to play a lead on it." And he goes, "Oh, we'll talk about it some other time."
ps yeah, right.

Don't you kinda feel like Mike does this to everyone he sees, everywhere? Like, if he saw you in a grocery store he'd walk over and say "Hey, if you ever make a record, I'd love to play a lead on it."its_not_1974 wrote:I remember we were at the MTV VMAs, and I just jumped over the seats, and I said [to Cobain], "Hey, I heard you and Ed might be doing a record some day. Re: Mike interview Esquire
for some reason calling it a lead seems more obnoxious than asking to play a solo.

Yea, but mike rarely does lead lines. He usually just tears a solo...
Stones leads all over LB are fantastic. Mike doesnt have the patience to do such things.

Re: Mike interview Esquire
Playing a "solo" is just one aspect of playing lead guitar. Mike plays "lead" on most Pearl Jam songs, even ones on which he also does a solo.Strat wrote:theplatypus wrote:Not the same thingstip wrote:for some reason calling it a lead seems more obnoxious than asking to play a solo.

Re: Mike interview Esquire
It depends what Mike meant. Was he asking to play "a lead guitar" (as in, any number of types of guitar part which could be played by a lead guitarist) or was he asking to play a solo (consisting of improvised notes and noodling)? I guess we'll never know. But a lead guitar is just a guitar which is played over a bedrock laid down by a rhythm guitar. The actual part played can be a solo, another part consisting of chords, or a separate rhythm part, but it's usually a bit more prominent in the mix, and played higher up. All of this may be wrong because I'm not a guitarist...
