Even if the politically switched-on people care to define the difference, the vast majority of Europeans will receive it as another confrontationally aggressive dismissal.

We’ll live the rest of our lives with a world where our closest allies do not rely on us, do not trust us, and do not see doing business with it as “safer” than the alternatives. All because a coalition of billionaires and would-be autocrats spent years convincing a group of people that a return to gilded age inequities is how you save western civilization….and those people will watch their own homes burn to the ground before they’ll ever admit that they were wrong.

Canada should seek closer ties with Britain because its nuclear weapons can help protect the country against Donald Trump, a Liberal party leader running to replace Justin Trudeau has said.

Chrystia Freeland, the former deputy prime minister under Mr Trudeau, said that US president is “clearly threatening our sovereignty” with his campaign to absorb Canada as the 51st state of America.

In order to “guarantee our security”, Ms Freeland said she would build closer security partnerships with European Nato allies and “I would be sure that France and Britain were there, who possess nuclear weapons”.
