was it because it was slow?

it certainly is that, but in the best way. Seasons all the build up and tension for when it all does go off.

The guy who played Yabushige (Tadanobu Asano) not winning an Emmy seems like a huge miss. Guy was fucking fire.

Favourite podcast has stated a series about the actual guy shogun was based on.
Well worth your time.

In 1598, a fleet of five ships from the Dutch East India Company sailed to South America with the intention of plundering Spanish treasure ships on the western coast of the New World - before heading across the Pacific to Asia. One of those ships - with 24 men (out of nearly 500) - reached Japan nearly two years later, led by an English Pilot named William Adams. It is the unlikely start of a journey that will see Adams become the first European to be granted the status of Samurai. Adams' story has been popularized with the novel Shogun and two television series of the same name.

This show was great. My favorite part of season one blew up, though, so two is going to be a hard sell for me.

you havent yet? such a treat in store. It takes its time when it has to, gives you time to stop and look around. Its a feast for the eyes and senses. design and sets and costumes and all of it, outta this world.
and thats just the background stuff. its a beautifully balanced tense story too.
Really excellent show. Only drawback was the ending.

Favourite character was killed in episode 9, and there was never a final confrontation between the main guys. Probably because they are making more seasons.
