Yeah man, this record is heavy. He lifts the veil a bit though not entirely or poorly, I am glad he made the record as he did and hope it promotes an even more spectacular artist going forward.

Effectual self-reflection really only comes with time, Isbell and I have certainly shared some tribulations.

Like the true, honest, real, romantic and enduring feeling I get from If We Were Vampires, the joy and love and connection... Gravelweed is the exact opposite in the exact right way. It's the anti-Vampires and it fucking hurts.

I listened to the record again today, in fact I listened to his entire studio catalog in reverse.

I still think Weathervanes is incredible and having this document living next to it is pretty damn great. I feel like the last album touched on their live prowess a bit more than other records so scaling it all the way back is just one helluva move.

I still think maybe... Just maybe... Jason works best in a full band setting.
