Never understood that aspect. How is it viable financially?

I don’t use them so I don’t care. Only one I’ve ever heard of would be handy and that was the wolf coming with you in BOTW. All the others seemed pointless.

Definitely not a dead market. Nintendo still releases a few new ones every year. They've been re-releasing more and more too. I have all the Zelda ones - there's about 30 of them. Nintendo of New York had all on display for a while. It's an impressive set.

If you just want the codes and not the figures, you can buy amiibo cards off of eBay or Etsy. You can grab all the Zelda ones for $20 total.

Really! Wasn’t aware of that.

I’d just love the wolf one

The Wolf amiibo is very unique. It was one of the few (the only?) amiibo that could be leveled up. Via Twilight Princess on the WiiU. In BotW, the base Wolf amiibo will spawn with 3 hearts. A fully leveled Wolf amiibo would have 20 hearts. If you're buying a card, get the 20 heart version.

Will look into it next run thanks Tom.
Playing TOTK at the moment and just ignoring all the big stuff. Just running around for distraction. If they in the next iteration could squeeze all the sages into one beast. Say like a wolf, it would make things much easier.

NINJA GAIDEN RAGEBOUND REVIEW BELOW:

When I was finally able to afford an NES, Mario 2 was already out, and I bought it the same day I bought the console. With an allowance of $5 a week, I knew it would be a while before I could buy another game. Even that day, though, I knew what that game was going to be. I mean, have you seen the fucking box for Ninja Gaiden? I was 12. It was probably the coolest thing I’d ever seen.

Several months later, I paid $50 with no other information. No one I knew had it. I was a country kid 10 miles from town so renting games wasn’t an option. When I put the game in and was immediately treated to the incredible cinematic scene of Ken Hayabusa’s death (or so we thought!), my jaw was on the floor.

Then I played the first stage. The controller felt like an extension of my hand. I whooped ass and completely dismantled the first boss. And then…another cinematic story sequence? I could not have been more hooked.

If you’ve played the game, you know. The music, the enemies, the sheer difficulty of it all (“Tecmo Games - Hard to Beat” is the coolest double meaning ever), and of course the cut scene with a demonic castle in the distance and Ryu in the foreground. To me, that clip is right up there with Vader revealing he’s Luke’s father and the Hulkster bodyslamming the Giant as seminal moments in my childhood.

I lived and breathed that game for months. I discussed it ad nauseam with my friends, drew Ryu in the margins of all my notebooks, and though I have no recollection of it, probably rubbed a couple out to the idea of Ryu bending Irene Sweet Lew.

What I couldn’t beat was the game. I got to what I thought was the end and defeated Ryu’s father, but the Jaquio was too hard, and the worst torture of all was that when you lost, you went back 3 or 4 levels, and those levels were insanely tough.

I honestly think that game taught me tenacity. It didn’t hurt that I couldn’t afford another game either. Eventually, I got really good at the game. I did beat the Jaquio and the demon boss after him as well. In fact, I once ran through the entire game without dying once. That might sound like a lie, but since there were no passwords, every time you quit, you had to start all over, and I knew the game with my eyes closed. The ending was spectacular, and a sequel was coming.

I’m not going to go into depth with the sequels. My favorite memory of Ninja Gaiden 2 was the Nintendo Power commercial that featured several premium titles, and there was a shot of Ryu fighting through a fire level while the commercial’s song lyrics were “higher and higher, fighting your way through enemy fire!” I loved the game almost as much as the first, but the anticipation for it was more fun than the game for me. Part 3 didn’t come out until late 91, and by then my interest in ninjas and video games had waned significantly. My best video game friend had moved away by then as well so playing it was kind of a hollow experience.

Sometime in the early aughts I did play the first Xbox Ninja Gaiden game all the way through. I have no lasting memory of that other than it was hard.

RAGEBOUND REVIEW

I had no idea a new Ninja Gaiden sidescroller was even in the works. I can’t remember how I stumbled on the review. That led to another and another, all of them glowing. My hope was this would be like that TMNT game that came out a few years ago, reminding me exactly of the old games. Well, this isn’t that.

What’s great?
The music. Once in a while I found my self stopping and thinking, this guitar fucking rips!
The gameplay. It’s smooth and it’s pretty fun. I’m happily middling, but there are lots of challenges for lunatic gamers.
The beginning tutorial. You get to play as Ken Hayabusa leading up to the opening of the original. Love that!
The colors. I never played much SNES, but this is like that. It’s vibrant and the animation is fun.
The boss fights. There are many and they are hard. I honestly can’t believe I beat it. It felt rewarding.
There is a hard mode unlocked after you beat it, if that’s your thing. I won’t be doing that. My forearm throbbed from the normal mode. I don’t want my lasting memories of any game to be me throwing a controller.

What isn’t great?
The characters. Ryu was awesome. Kenji is a brash cunt, and the girl is even worse.
The dialogue. It’s embarrassing. It’s like middle schoolers wrote it.
The story. Actually, it’s happening parallel to Ryu in America, which is a cool idea. It’s not a terrible story, but it isn’t told in the engaging way the original is. Actually, it’s a terrible story.

I don’t think it’s the 9 or 10 so many reviews are giving it, but it’s a solid 8. There are plenty of things to make this feel like Ninja Gaiden during game play, but the tone is all wrong. It was a fun way to cap my summer of video games, and like Zelda:Echos of Wisdom, it was a nice palate cleanser after so many months of Playstation games. I hope no one read all of this.

Now, I’ve heard at some point they updated another of my favorites - Bionic Commando. Should I just stay away?

The 3D game from the 360? It's pretty good, but a big departure from the NES game.

Didn’t even know about that. I was talking about Re-armed. An update of the original game.
