starting my seed starters on the back porch this week as it is in the 70s all week. Trimming down the veg garden this year to focus on the rest of the yard and help my wife with the flowers and other plant areas. This year i'm doing:

Leeks
Shallots
Pickling cucumbers
Red habaneros
some other hot pepper I'll buy later from the pepper lady at the farmer's market.

very nice. we still have a 20-degree blast in the forecast for a few days from now but it’s gonna be as high as mod-50s today which had me thinking about start of garden season.

I’ve already bought my fertilizer for arbs and camellias

Signed a contract with a new landscaping company for the mower and weeding maintenance

Once we’re clear for overnight freezing need to reconnect the drip lines

May also do an early mulch

Then get the seeds and add some organic soil for the vegetable garden

Looking forward to more greenery

The birds are getting louder in the morning again so spring is on its way

Also ordered my Allegra for the season going to start building up allergy defense a bit earlier this year

You'll be the first to know.

Last time I grew it was 2 years ago and we had a steady harvest all the way thru December. That's Houston climate though. You can practically grow year round until a random winter freeze comes thru.

re-instated the drip line today

have not planted in the garden box anything new yet but there is one parsley-type plant that is basically made of steel that didn't die over the winter even though it got cut back to the root. curious to see if that thing mega-takes off when it gets warmer. there were black swallowtail catepillars eating it last year was pretty cool to watch. they look kinda like monarch catepillars

We have a row of young boxwoods in the front of our house. 80% of them made it through the winter but one of them seems to have died. Totally dried out, withered and brown. I dug it up today and noticed the root system seems healthy, but I'm no expert. Going to pot it and see if I can get it budding again.

Anyone have a good cat repellent recommendation? Currently spraying some cinnamon and cayenne in the garden, hoping that works.

Chicken wire with the top couple of sections bent outward so they don't just jump over it.

I'm glad I won't have to resort to warning strays with cat heads on sticks.

just did a monster fertilizer session

200 jobe's spikes for the arborvitae

was furiously planting them listening to Vitalogy and Vs

gotta get to them early spring they say

i realized i had been under-fertilizing them in the past

so upped the dosage

should be doing like 4-5 spikes per tree, instead was doing like 2

had to order another case

there will be another session

tunes were too good

Good luck, 9up.

I have successfully germinated a handful of french radish seeds. Lobg time planter, first time seed buyer. I've always bought and planted sprouts. Germination is a different rush entirely.

thanks dawg

monster gardening session this morning and yesterday

fertilized the remainder of the trees

pruned the dead winter limbs

tilled the garden soil, added new garden soil

planted some seeds

planted 4 new rose bushes

found some organic deer repellant mix and spread that around the flower beds hoping it keeps them away

gonna attempt a couple berry bushes this year, will see how they turn out

excited for the warmer weather

Put my pickling cukes sprouts in the garden today. Waiting a little longer for the shallots, leeks, and habaneros until they get a little bigger
