I think people are allowed to voice their opinions how they see fit, no matter how shitty they are.
But, posting porn pics.....when a lot of people are on this board at work....absolutely zero ok.
Luckily i get to talk to Dime elsewhere.
Yep. Any sort of phobia can be addressed with words and discussion. If it's offensive to some then discussion or argument can be had around that. And in extreme cases of straight up continued bigotry then I am happy to trust the Mods to make their decisions.
But doing what dime did is not OK and I can't really see how it's even a comparison tbh.

I think the conflict epilogue might be experiencing has to do with the reason Dime posted the porn pic to begin with, and whether or not it was fair to ban him and also not ban the cause of his distress to begin with. If you believe all of the "gay" comments are equally harmful as a porn pic, as dime apparently does, all should be banned equally, or not at all. Either way, dime's pornographic lashing out has succeeded in rooting out all the frivolous "gay" chatter around here, and if anyone was actually harmed or offended by it, this place will be safer, forevermore inoculated for them from it.
I think each case has to be evaluated separately. In this case homophobic posts over a period of time, triggered this outrage and graphic response. I think several of us are to blame for not doing enough to prevent those homophobic posts, including the mods. While posting those graphic images is a dick move, in light of everything above, that makes a lifetime ban another miscarriage of justice, while those guilty of the posts, are posting freely to this day.
Hopefully Dime can return soon, under the promise not to post more pornographic images.

Punching people is wrong.
Punching a bully who has harassed you for a long time despite several warnings from authority figures who refuse to do more than just wag their fingers at the bully, while still wrong, is understandable.
what happens when someone continues with minor infractions, is warned multiple times, then given a short break, then comes back and continues the minor infractions, given another short break, all of RM demands "bring them back" and they come back and keep doing it? Then, some other posters hate that they are doing it again, so they report posts all of the time? Modding isn't full time. Stop posting like 13 year olds and bans won't happen. I have no problem just banning people indefinitely now and letting the mods then discuss the length of the ban after it is given out. So you may see "permanent" but it may not be. When I'm on my phone and I have to act quickly, permanent ban is the quickest in the way the admin forum is set up.

It was already gone. Dime was reacting to old threads that Dev bumped

I am ready to move on if others are ready to as well
You let me know if my apology thread was not explicit enough for you

Ah yes, "not your fault" you got banned. Clearly not ready to move on, my dude.
And whether or not it's correct, I think the fact that no one who saw the posts in public got in trouble for it matters in this case.
I understand what peeps is saying. If that had happened, of there had been punished or dismissed ot any kind of HR consequences, we'd be having a different conversation about dime. But it didn't.
There is also the question of accountability. Should you be looking at RM at work? I don't know and that's far less important and meaningful in this discussion. But it is still a small part of it.
All of that to say, these things are nuanced and complicated. Dime did a really stupid thing, but there were understandable reasons why. When/if dime is allowed back (which, if it were up to me alone would be sooner than later) it will be made very clear that he's on a zero tolerance leash.

Right, with the "not-recent behaviour" jab snuck in there.

At the the of the day, this
I can already predict what will happen when dev decides to post again.

what if dime took some sort of, i don't know, anger management courses? the reasons for his lashing out might seem justified on some level(s), but i think most of us can agree there are more diplomatic ways to handle conflict. have him pass an online course and then unban him, i say.. surely lenny from HR can come up with something

i know i posted more than others
and cleaning up the aftermath is not fun
glad it is over though
