I was listening to Jason Isbell songs on shuffle/random and Foxes was followed by Vampires and I said, "ouch... random my ass" out loud to no one but myself.

This track got me pretty good the other day, his delivery is a bit more Mike Cooley here but it can literally hurt to listen to... enjoy!

saw him and band in Milwaukee last night. He never disappoints. The band is so good. The Foxes in the Snow songs translate VERY well with the 400 unit.

It was very weird that that crowd sat the entire time until the encore. I didn't like that.

Something More Than Free (10 Year Anniversary Edition)

How does an artist follow a critically-acclaimed breakthrough record like Southeastern? For Jason Isbell, the answer was Something More Than Free. With songs like "24 Frames," "Flagship," and "Children of Children," the 2015 album found Isbell tackling the subjects he knows best: the dignity of work, the difficulty of love, the friction between the present and the past. Something More Than Free further established the North Alabama native as a bonafide songwriter, and also netted him his first two Grammy Awards, for Americana Album of the Year, and for American Roots Song of the Year ("24 Frames.")

10 years later, Something More Than Free has been re-mixed by the legendary Sylvia Massy (Prince, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty), breathing new life into these now classic songs in the Isbell canon. And as a cherry on top, the man has broken his normal rule and included a b-side here. "Should I Go Missing" is a bluesy jammer highlighted by Isbell's slide guitar playing. If we're lucky, it will become a staple at his upcoming live shows.

Eh, I think this is a prime example of why a B-Side is not an A-Side.

That said I think the album sounds much better, I always felt it was often felt pretty flat. The guitars are more up front and the separation is great, still listening through again but give 24 Frames a side-by-side.

edit: Also want to add how much I have been enjoying the Georgia Blue release lately, it is such a great showcase and just damn fun.

Haven't listened to the re-release yet but Isbell by favorite artist and I listen to this album 2-3x a week (really). It's my favorite of his and of anyone. Southeastern basically same level but if I can only have one on an island, I'll take this one.

EDIT: Just listed to 24 and Speed Trap Town and I hate this vs. the original. Garbage. Weird. What am I missing?

Garbage? Just queued up Speed Trap and really it is just separation to my ears, just used to it being mildly flat? The vocals are slightly more upfront but not much on that song in particular.

Same with Southeastern and not hearing a big difference. 100% understand why you might not like it, I always felt the original mix was muddy.

But let's play with some Southeastern tracks...

edit: That album is practically a solo endeavor, nothing to find I found.
