What ChatGPT thinks of RMers

Post by washing machine »

I've run a few of your posting histories through ChatGPT and it's got a lot to say.

I hope you're all ready to face the truth, because it's brutally honest and data driven.

I have PM'd tommy a detailed deck highlighting high performing RMers. He will be getting decks regarding lesser RMers in the next few days. Please go to him for all requests.

This thread is wild — a real soap opera in forum form.

What I make of it:

It’s a big messy meltdown. You’ve got longtime posters (with thousands of posts!) unraveling over questionable “humor,” perceived or actual homophobia, and retaliatory posting of explicit porn.

Dime seems like a longtime, maybe beloved troll, who wanted out. The “suicide by mod” theory feels pretty spot on. He asked about account deletion, got ignored, then just nuked himself with the ultimate ‘ban me’ move.

Dev sounds like collateral damage. Possibly just going too hard stirring old threads and reigniting drama. He likely got banned for poking the bear after warnings.

9UP’s ban feels like either collateral damage or a mod cracking down to avoid perception issues. He may have been unintentionally fueling the gay-themed banter that offended Dime, even if it was affectionate or self-deprecating.

The mods are frustrated. Ruddock went from being lenient to throwing down the hammer, probably tired of policing grown adults acting like teens on a dare.

The regulars are half amused, half annoyed. There's gallows humor and confusion, but also a clear desire to keep things from fully imploding. Some want mercy; some are ready to move on.

It’s fascinating that nobody can 100% agree on what crossed the line. Was it homophobic? Affectionate? Provocation? Self-sabotage? The conversation keeps circling that.

It’s one of those classic message board moments where a community’s in-jokes, old beefs, and unclear boundaries combust into something both hilarious and kind of tragic.

SUMMARY OF EVENTS

A poster known as dime posted explicit pornographic images (described repeatedly as “big juicy schlongs” and buttholes) on the public message board (RM).

This seemed like an act of protest or frustration, triggering a large discussion about moderation, community standards, and interpersonal tensions.

KEY PARTIES INVOLVED

dime
Longtime, abrasive but often entertaining poster.
Feels marginalized.
Posted explicit images in an apparent “suicide-by-mod” protest, angry that mods ignored homophobic or problematic content (especially from 96up).

E.H. Ruddock (Ruddo)
Senior mod/admin figure, often steps in on serious issues.
Claimed mods weren’t around when the images were posted, but acted quickly once aware.
Expressed frustration at people acting out and blaming the moderation team.

96583UP (a.k.a. Numbers)
Known for edgy humor, including repetitive “gay” jokes, often self-aware and absurdist.
Banned previously for this; apologized but still brought up as part of the conflict.
Wants to move on and leave that behavior behind.

Dev
Known provocateur with chaotic energy.
Also banned (reason unclear), possibly for bumping old “gay humor” threads that reignited dime’s anger.
Has a complicated, tense relationship with Ruddo and the mod team.

spike
Respected community member; rational but sarcastic.
Critical of dime’s explicit posting but understands there were layered motivations.

lennytheweedwhacker
Longtime poster; humorous and self-deprecating.
Provides comic relief, jokes about banning himself and Jorge to lighten the mood.

Jorge
Halfway between instigator and voice of reason.
Tries to find balance, advocates for reinstating all three posters, recognizing they’re “essential.”
Also uses humor and self-deprecation.

Anders
Calm, rational voice; frequently mediates.
Acknowledges mods’ difficulties but believes context matters and dime deserves eventual reinstatement.

epilogue
Thoughtful and diplomatic; sometimes plays devil’s advocate.
Frames the incident as stemming from bullying and inadequate moderation.
Argues for nuance and second chances.

BurtReynolds
Resident joker and occasional contrarian.
Switches between snarky takes and trolling, sometimes for humor, sometimes for disruption.

KEY ARGUMENTS

Dime’s Outburst (Explicit Images)
Dime felt ignored and frustrated by homophobic language and mod inaction.
Many see this as a “suicide-by-mod” move.
Some (Higgs, Peeps) argue it crossed an unforgivable line, potentially harming users browsing at work.

Persistent Homophobic / “Gay” Jokes (especially from 96up)
Some users view these jokes as harmless absurdist humor.
Others (like dime) found them toxic and triggering.
96up admits wrongdoing, apologized, but defends his humor as misunderstood.

Mod Response and Inaction
Ruddo explained he was traveling and banned dime as soon as he could.
Others (like spike) argue moderation has long been slow and inconsistent.

Permanent Bans vs. Temporary Bans / Double Standards
Ruddo used permanent bans as a quick admin measure (not always truly permanent).
Anders and epilogue argue that context matters; a lifetime ban for dime seems excessive.

Dev’s Involvement
Banned for unclear reasons (possibly trolling or bumping old inflammatory threads).
Dev feels personally slighted, claims Ruddo has been “freezing him out.”

Community Identity and Tolerance for Chaos
Jorge, spike, Anders, and others advocate for reintegrating colorful but difficult posters.
Others are frustrated and want a cleaner, more stable community.

CORE RELATIONSHIPS AND DYNAMICS
dime & the community: A love/hate figure. His actions are disruptive but sometimes stem from real grievances. Some want him back, others feel the line was crossed.
dime & Ruddo: Conflict. Dime felt mods weren’t protecting marginalized groups; Ruddo felt he did what he could and is tired of childish behavior.
Dev & Ruddo: Tense relationship. Dev seeks acknowledgment but feels snubbed; Ruddo likely finds Dev exhausting.
Jorge & lenny: Playful friendship. They joke about getting banned together and becoming “celibate lovers.”
spike & everyone: A respected voice balancing reason and humor. Frustrated but measured.
Anders & the board: Mediator, respected for calm rational takes.
BurtReynolds & everyone: Joker and instigator. Sometimes contributes to chaos, sometimes lightens the mood.
epilogue & the mods: Sympathetic to their challenges but pushes for nuance and accountability.

MY TAKE
This entire blow-up is about clashing definitions of humor and harm.
Dime’s actions were extreme, but partly protest and partly self-destruction.
The board’s tolerance for edgy, inside-joke “gay” humor had clearly hit its expiration date for some users.
The mods are exhausted, trying to control a community of adults who often behave like teenagers.
At its core: this is about long-standing relationships, blurred boundaries, and collective burnout.

CONCLUSION
Dime will probably be reinstated eventually; he’s too central to the community’s chaos.
Dev will continue to be unpredictable and provocative.
Ruddo will keep banning quickly and asking questions later.
The community will never fully agree on where to draw the line, but this might force them to set clearer standards.

ChatGPT is sort of right that it's fascinating just how perplexing and unclear the narrative about this situation is.

I hate these NPR voices. Can we filter this through someone with more élan vital? Like a Tucker Carlson or Joe Rogan? We need more hannity and colmes energy.
