Other than the terrible security thing, they seemed rather too optimistic that limited strikes against the Houthis would accomplish anything. The Saudis conducted a long ground campaign against them, and we held them back and they eventually gave up. What's the gameplan here exactly? Re-establish deterrence by...?

agree

seemed like they launched the attack to distract from the market tanking due to tariff talk

This was barely a line item in the media that day. Fighting the Houthis is a good excuse not to deal with UKR though.

It reads as if they are unclear whether the president wants and understands the attack, and are deciding in real time whether or not to conduct it.

JD Vance, who is the vice president and presumably in regular consult with the president, says he is unclear whether Trump understands the ramifications of the action re:Europe. But, he says he will go along with the group consensus.

The group consensus?

Group consensus don’t mean shit. Either the president authorized and ordered the attack or not. No one seems to know for sure.

Eventually, someone adds Stephen Miller, who says “as I heard it”…the president gave his approval. Someone references a conversation they already had on the matter in a separate Signal group chat. The whole thing seems like a fucking mess. Some people appear to be following the conversation from two devices. Tulsi Gabbard doesn’t even wanna say what country she was in at the time. They’re targeting civilian infrastructure based on group consensus, and they don’t even know who they invited to the chat.

You can tell MAGA is a cult, because for years one of their central defining arguments was that both party establishments were rotted out with blundering warhawks. They won’t even remember that this happened a week from now.

How much of it is people justifying their useless jobs or looking at things too granularly?

"Hey, we have some intel on where this small terrorist group will be at this time, so we should bomb them."

"Great job, will it do anything to stop the greater problem of disrupting shipping lanes?"

"Uhhh... That's above my pay grade."

Looking over it, it feels like they are the "cargo cult" of national security. Even TV mass-market shows (Homeland/Jack Ryan/etc) are smarter than this.

Yeah Gabbard just admitted it was a mistake, I feel like somehow they'll pin this on her and she'll take the fall.

Haha they are no longer classified war plans just because they were shared during the operation, not prior to (they were shared prior to). Does that apply to all past military operations as well then?

Just amazing the excuses.

The US apparently has some sort of agreement with the Taliban and is operating out of Bagram again, though it's not official yet.

What is going on with the jets ‘falling off’ ships?
I’ve heard it’s a cover for them actually being shot down in flight and the other theory it’s being done on purpose by the ships crew.

I mean four of them? Hardly accidental
