baseball stories

Post by doug rr »

I know we have an MLB thread where we get our geek out..anyway, tell your story or 2 here..

in 1974 my dad took a transfer and thats how we ended up in Colorado..one of the first things we did was get season passes to watch the
the Denver bears triple a team..the button I wore on my shirt was $5 for the whole year..anyway, we went to 3 straight games against the Omaha royals on the summer evening..it was great..my dad mentioned to me that I should go down and get some autographs on the 50 cent program we would buy..
he told me to go get the 3rd baseman's autograph so I did..it was George Brett..3 days in a row i got it and he gave me a bat of his on a Sunday afternoon...

more to come

Lived in Salinas, California, for a few years. A friend from back home visited, and we went to an A’s game in Oakland. I came back from the concession stand, and I don’t know what prompted it, but I told my friend MC Hammer was from Oakland. He looked at me and said, “Did he sell you those nachos?”

My dad had tickets to the ‘82 Series in Milwaukee, but since I was only 5, he decided not to take me because I wouldn’t appreciate it as much as one of my teenage uncles. He was right I suppose, but I still never forgave him.

1987 in vegas..Donovan Osborne is on the mound and throws me a slider that I've never seen..I looked back at the ump at the catcher and just laughed because I'd never seen a ball move like that from 60 feet

First Red Sox game I ever went to, Frank Thomas hit two home runs over the Monster. The BoSox were really bad back then.

I'm not a big baseball guy, even kind of a hater at times, but I started watching Bo clips the other night and was like "hell yeah".

Most memorable baseball experience was probably Yankees at Red Sox … the rivalry to end all rivalries … sitting out in right field. So many cops, fights, fans ejected, and bags of sawdust to clean up puke. It was amazing.

October 1984 I got the call...I was selected to play on a team that traveled to Australia and New Zealand for a few weeks..my folks were away and I had the house to myself..nobody to celebrate the news with..I remember doing the moon walk after the call..the plane went from Denver to LA and I saw Dolly Parton at LAX..mind blown right there at 18..we flew from LA to Hawaii I remember getting sick and throwing up at the airport during a few hour layover..finally ended up in Sydney the next day..had a really good time and even made out with a girl from there after a game..we spent a lot of time again on one of those nice big buses driven by a guy named Bill..weird that I still remember him to this day..we made our way through Brisbane and Melbourne as well..it was now Christmas Day and we spent it at the beach..it was so hot and some people(girls) were topless..we left for New Zealand a day or 2 later..baseball wasn't really a thing there at the time but they did love their softball..If I recall they had won a fast pitch championship a year or 2 earlier and they set up a game..I'd never been at the plate and seen a big ball coming at you under handed at what felt like 100 mph from about 45 feet away..I fouled off 1 pitch in 3 at bats..afterwards both teams gathered back out on the field for stories and whatnot and we ate a ton of fresh strawberries..we were able to have a couple more days of rest and relaxation while touring the north island..we flew back home and had a layover in Guam..My first experience with jet lag happened and I literally slept for 24 hours upon getting home..I just remembered that the girl I made out with had Midnight Oil written on both of her shoes..thought that was cool
