been to many yankee/Red Sox games at the old yankee stadium..I dont think I ever saw a fight..I just remember everyone yelling "Jeter swallows" the whole time..Bammer wrote:Most memorable baseball experience was probably Yankees at Red Sox … the rivalry to end all rivalries … sitting out in right field. So many cops, fights, fans ejected, and bags of sawdust to clean up puke. It was amazing.

summer 1973..my dad had a friend that worked for the cardinals..we took a road trip and went to 3 or 4 games..he gave us a tour of the stadium..we had seats right behind the 1st base dugout..we're watching BP and Tim McCarver hit my dad with a foul ball on his left shoulder..most of the players rushed up to see if we ok, which he was, and they all signed the ball..after the game we went to eat at biggies restaurant and Stan Musial came by to say hi and take polaroid pics with us..quite a thing for a 6 year old..

Re: baseball stories
My dad and I were running a little late to see what ended up being the last game of Nolan Ryan’s career in 1993. We got to the Kingdome in time to see him being pulled from the game and heading off the mound back to the dugout.
It was the first inning, Mariners had a 5-0 lead, and Ryan had not yet recorded an out. Fkn guy, overrated.

You’ve got some great baseball stories in this thread, but as a Cardinals fan, this one is awesome.doug rr wrote:summer 1973..my dad had a friend that worked for the cardinals..we took a road trip and went to 3 or 4 games..he gave us a tour of the stadium..we had seats right behind the 1st base dugout..we're watching BP and Tim McCarver hit my dad with a foul ball on his left shoulder..most of the players rushed up to see if we ok, which he was, and they all signed the ball..after the game we went to eat at biggies restaurant and Stan Musial came by to say hi and take polaroid pics with us..quite a thing for a 6 year old..

All this time on RM and I never knew Doug rr played minor league ball. So cool! Did you ever get to come up to the majors?

1988 bus ride for a week to playi some big and small colleges in Texas..one of the games was on local tv..I got picked off on first base to end the game..pretty embarrassing..anyway, no big deal as it wasn't a close game..we get back to the hotel and turned on the news only to see the replay of me getting nabbed..we all had a laugh and played cards..we couldn't drink on the road as the coaches would always clear out the mini fridge..I sure could have used one..

Re: baseball stories
on that same road trip we stopped and had 2 games against a juco in west Texas..we were all tired and didn't care and got our asses handed to us..our coach was so mad in the late innings of a blowout that he stomped around the dugout and threw a bottle of neatsfoot oil against the wall..glass shattered and a few guys uniforms were stained for good...

I've played every position growing up except 1st base..my dad was not a good ball player but he was a first baseman and a lefty..I always wanted a first baseman's glove..the shape always intrigued me..it was a lot like a flounder..

High school 1984..a friend and I were somehow able to coach little league ball..our sponsor for our uniforms was a local dry cleaner..kind of like Chico's Bail Bonds from the bad news bears..it was a job that paid me and my friend $150 for about 6 weeks of work and having to listen to parents bitch and moan..some of the moms were hot though..I had keys to the shed where all the equipment was stored..I stole a box of 12 new baseballs from it

1974..living in Nebraska at the time a few months before setting up shop in Colorado..my brother and I had started collecting cards..my dad would take us to the store and give us the money to buy a few packs..one day my sister was with us and she bought a pack as well...both my brother and sister pulled out the Hank Aaron card that I was after..I was so upset that I cried like a baby..I ended up getting one a few weeks later..

So I’m told. Love both those guys, got to see them both play later on a bunch. We went to the game when Yount got his 3000th hit, what a scene.doug rr wrote:what a year that was..Molitor and Yountspike wrote:My dad had tickets to the ‘82 Series in Milwaukee, but since I was only 5, he decided not to take me because I wouldn’t appreciate it as much as one of my teenage uncles. The ‘92 Brewers are still my favorite squad. Listach hitting lead off and stealing 50+ bases, the whole team stole bases. Cool mix of old guys like Yount, Molitor, Ganter and younger guys. Great pitching.doug rr wrote:April 1987..no bus trip this time because we got to fly..arizona state..this is when I got hurt..bad back injury that hurts to this day..I remember kneeling down at 2nd base in pain and pat listach came over to see if I was ok..stress fracture of a couple of vertebrae..ended up being ok and U2 played that night at the stadium on their Joshua Tree tour..we listened from outside
Darryl Hamilton was my favorite player for a while. We ran into him at the baggage claim in Denver once, my dad made sure we met him. He was very gracious, years later I realized he had probably been demoted down to AAA (Brewers’ affiliate was in Denver then), and was feeling low. I don’t know, maybe a kid like me recognizing him made him feel a bit better. He made it back and was a big part of 1992.

Re: baseball stories
I've probably shared this on RM a few times before, so my apologies if you've heard this before. My first ever MLB game was an extra innings thriller between the Cubs and the Pirates in 1992 at Wrigley.
Bonds, Sandberg, and Sosa all homered. I remember being very bored and then mad when the game went into extras (I was 6). Looking back it, what a game filled with legends!

I wouldn’t have guessed Sosa was on the Cubs as early as ‘92.
Sammy Sosa finished as the league leader in HRs twice but not in any of the 3 seasons that he hit 60+.

That was his first year on The Northside, but he was trash. Things started clicking the following season when he started juicing.Matters wrote:I wouldn’t have guessed Sosa was on the Cubs as early as ‘92.

Re: baseball stories
Aside from all of the Rickey Henderson highlights I witnessed at games over the years, I think my favorite was one of the years my company had Mariners season tickets. We used to fake going to a jobsite and instead use the afternoon midweek tickets for "clients" (me and a coworker of course) and go to games. One of those seasons I saw Richie Sexson charge the mound after an HBP, and the next night he hit a walk off homer. I've been to hundreds of baseball games and I think that is the only walk off I can remember seeing. I might have as a kid and just don't remember.
