Yeah, they were clearly on a family vacation. Kim was wearing a big straw hat.

I’ve been listening to A Thousand Leaves and Washing Machine non-stop lately. What a great era.

Re: Sonic Youth is fuckin amazing!
I'm listening to Sonic Life in audiobook form right now.
It's a total trip hearing Thurston read this. His voice has really aged. I'm actually not sure if he's putting us on and adopting a weird scholarly, "in the mind of a bourgeois reader" voice or what. It's off-putting a little bit, but then he gets on such a roll with these passages that I start to buy it.
Anyway, cool book. I've always liked the vocabulary he uses in Sonic Youth lyrics, and the way he has written these sentences is no different. I'll edit this post with some examples when I think of it.

I wonder if there's a song that showcases the band's range more than "Wildflower Soul"?Sloppy Dupree wrote:I’ve been listening to A Thousand Leaves and Washing Machine non-stop lately. What a great era.

Re: Sonic Youth is fuckin amazing!
good question.
Well, The Diamond Sea could be one of those, although its too long and noisy maybe. Pattern Recognition maybe?
Its interesting how they tried to trim down a lot of the jam aspect in the latter albums.

I’ve been rotating between Murray Street and Sonic Nurse lately, mostly as a result of a spinoff from a separate Jim O’Rourke binge. It just reaffirms that O’Rourke improves most anything he touches. I’ve come to think of him as a newer version of Brian Eno—albeit one who is in the musical trenches with the band. He pops in, does his thing (in accordance with the band’s ethos), and leaves—and the music is all the better for it.

yeah, i can agree with that view, even if im still just recently interested on Eno´s music.
But Jim is just an awesome musician and you can see how deep his ethos and music got into the band.
I also bought Dirty on vinyl, but hasnt arrived yet.

I’ve listened to most of that—the exception being Eiko Ishibashi. Although a cursory review makes me think I’d love it just as much as the rest.tragabigzanda wrote:Huge fan. If it’s not too off-topic, I should give a mention to his collab with Fennesz. One of my favorite albums from each of those artists. They complement each other well.

Re: Sonic Youth is fuckin amazing!
Saw Kim opening for St Vincent yesterday. Great show. It kinda pales in comparision to St Vincent now that i saw both, but i was very into her music. Felt like a more experimental and heavy version of SY, with barely melody at all, and her guitar player is amazing really, very Lee Ranaldo.
Kim is still a goddess actually, what a lady.

Saw that tease on instagram. Always excited for anything she does.
I haven't gotten far in Thurston's book. It's been on indefinite hold. Just haven't been feeling it. I will say there's a funny story towards the front about running into The Ramones on the street before they were going to play a show at CBGB
