WOOF!

This is tough... I'll have to come back to it. I'm leaning DTE but...

Brendan O’Brien is one of the heroes in the Pearl Jam story. DtE is top 10 but I’m tempted to vote for Better Man because of the song’s history and because when Ed’s guitar comes in after the intro and the first verse, chorus, second verse… maybe the best moment in the band’s history.
Every sentence in my head, someone else has said.

I'm going Betterman, but if this had popped up another day, I might've gone DTE.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Now, I've only seen PJ live 11 times. One of those was the R&R Hall of Fame induction, which sort of feels like it doesn't count because it's not like a full show, you know?

Anyway, they've played DTE at every show I've attended except that Hall show (which again, feels like a technicality). So, I've seen that one live 10 times.

However... They did play Better Man at the Hall show. Which means, I've also seen that one 10 times live!

You can see why this is so difficult.

So…both have had their big moments where I was slackjawed at MSG (DTE in ‘03 “the stage is bouncing, sing like a choir!”; Better Man in 2010), and both are legitimately great songs live and on record, but I do much prefer DTE and would reach for that song 100/100 times if I only had the choice of one. But Better Man is still a great track.

Yeah, after too much time thinking about this... I'm sticking with DTE.

This may belong in the unpopular opinions thread, but this is the battle of the most tired, played-out songs in the deck.

We can have a whole discussion on this. You have songs that are tired and overplayed in reality, songs that are overrated in reality, songs that are underrated in reality, songs that are overrated in RM in particular, songs that are underrated in RM in particular (largely due to being overrated in reality or overplayed in reality), songs that are tired and overplayed in RM in particular…
