Lets quote the guy:
One of his main false claims - repeated in a 2023 interview with Fox News, was that “autism comes from vaccines”.

I'm going to try and thread the needle here as folks love to intentionally misinterpret my posts, so this is from Claude explaining immune system development in one year olds:
"The infant immune system undergoes significant development during the first year of life. At birth, newborns possess passive immunity from maternal antibodies transmitted through the placenta and breast milk. Between 2-3 months, this passive protection begins declining as the infant's own immune system activates. By 6 months, babies start producing their own antibodies in greater quantities while maternal antibodies continue decreasing. From 6-12 months, their immune system matures further with developing T-cell function, enhanced antibody production, and improved response to vaccines, though full immune competence remains incomplete until later childhood."
Medical science bases the early childhood vaccine schedule on the historically observed timeline of immune system development and has been wildly successful in reducing infant mortality. Balancing potency and dosage timing has saved hundreds of millions. It's probably as close to a human-sourced miracle as we've ever seen. We have an incredibly broad-ranging monitoring system and dataset that backs up what this effort has achieved.
But.
Our world is changing. Our understanding of neuroscience and the structure of the nervous system grows everyday while at the same time observations for growth milestones (first steps, mirror-mark tests, first period, etc.) are shifting for reasons we don't yet understand making it critical to continuously re-evaluate past studies and recommendations. All of them. It is possible that alongside these shifts that a subset of infants have underdeveloped (or overdeveloped) immune responses either from insufficient transfer or supply from the mother, acquired infection, poor diet, toxic environments, or any one of a plethora of developmental issues that effect their responses to vaccines to an extent that it deviates from what has historically been shown to be safe. If we are able to tie our growing understanding of the effects of immune-responses and our growing understanding of the nervous system we could possibly see a deeper correlation and gain a better understanding of infection in the brain, the immune-responses in the brain and nerve tissue, and the long term effects of these thing and ultimately tie these back to the growing body of evidence that suggests inflammatory responses in the brain have long term consequences.
But.
If we shut down re-evaluation and criticism of the childhood vaccine schedule we risk missing information that would allow us to identify any potential cause-and-effect scenarios.
I do NOT say these things to endorse RFK's stance or the Trump admin's devastating treatment of science and research in the US. It's to remind us that science is never 'settled' and our scientific 'truth' is approximated by the elimination of alternatives, a process which is inherently limited by data and technology and thus must be a continuous process of fearless questioning and rework. Even if those questions are from biased and politically motivated outsiders, because as the pandemic made clear, there are plenty of biased and politically motivated insiders.

The article explains the rationale for the renewed research, but I'm not sure what would even constitute 'sound evidence' here as autism is not some viral sequence we can test for (as far as we know today) and similar to nearly everything else it's unlike to be a single cause-and-effect condition.

I gotta say the origin of most psychological disorders is probably unclear even if there is some scientific consensus. Like we are pretending we understand autism, schizophrenia, ocd, and adhd(actually I think gabor cracked this one for real).

I think tracing it all back to the gut is another reductionist stretch too.

Of course, they aren't all created equal, but if they were the best guesses would all be trauma informed.tragabigzanda wrote:I wouldn’t necessarily commingle neurological with psychological. I’m so far from an expert on this, but there’s some emerging research that schizophrenia is an autoimmune response; I’ve not seen anything linking ADHD to immune or gut science.
Point being I don’t think all brain stuff is created equal.
There is an autoimmune theory for many of them, especially schizo and ocd, but it I don't think it's the best explanation for either.
My point is we haven't scratched the surface on of it, and most theories are wrong at this day.
And when I referred to Gabor's theory on ADHD I was referring to a trauma-based theory that obviously holds some water.

I wish that the early reports that the Pope had rebuffed Vance and sent some other minion to lecture him on compassion were true.
