Re: Do you remember your first impressions of RM?
No recollection. Probably excitement. In my dial up internet days I frequented a site called Trapdoor in the Sun as well as Five Horizons. I have no idea how I found this place or why I chose it over the Pit. It is the only message board I’ve ever participated on. There was a real snobbery to this place. Actually liking Pearl Jam was a strike against you. I like what’s left of the community, but it does make me sad to visit after 24 hours and see only a handful of topics with new posts.

damn you spike
red mosquito and theskyiscrape were two different entities. BigMama and Scott respectively ran each of those. i had the pearl jam forum bookmarked so never saw the general discussion forum. scott gently prodded me to post my nonsense there
my first impression is sort of what it still is at this point 25 years later. a place to kill some time and converse with people who i would never have the chance to

Peeps, I have a confession to make, and I do apologise but your reaction was hilarious.
Around, what? 15 years ago? A former RMer called Macjunkie (or something like that) gave out her username and password to RM on the 'fuge and told us to make mischief. So, one of the things I did was to send you a flirty PM from her account. Instead of responding, you posted a thread in GD with a title along the lines of 'The dirtiest skank in the world just PM'ed me'. Truly inspired, and apologies again.

Re: Do you remember your first impressions of RM?
Thank you sir. The old days of PJ Chat were greatVinylGuy wrote:I kinda think my first run on RM was around 2002. Totally different place by then, and i was here mainly to talk about Pearl Jam. But i met great wonderful people like Angi, King Jeremy and Juvenal. Angi and KJ even sent me a box with PJ Holiday Singles!! my first batch of them. It was a very incredible moment.
Also met Maya, an israeli girl who became a pretty good friend on a personal level.
I think i came back around maybe 2006? i dont remember really. And i agree with Joe, internet was already a different beast and the board was another thing, very enjoyable but least friendly. I would imagine in 2020 or 2021 was even worse for new posters maybe haha.
Still, this is my favorite internet forum and social media by far. Lots of great info, very fun people too, very cool. It can get ugly these days if let it but ey, its just a post!

I'm certain the RM got worse when Rafa left. And then worse again when cutuphalfdead left. And then worse again when I found out Malice would never be back.

I think it peaked right before yoga-pants gate. The fallout from that was tremendous and a lot of people changed.

I think chud may have left because of guys like verb and macphisto. Just grew tired of their relentless edgelordness.Dev wrote:neither rafa or chud had any particular reason for leaving did they?

Yep. I pleaded for Chud's return but the response I got was "absolutely not"
