We’re talking of going to Hattie B’s or Prince’s tomorrow night. This may finally happen.

At this point we’re just trying to decide between the two.

Just finished up. Sooooooooo good. Black-eyed pea salad was the fucking bomb. Greens were good, too. Just exceptional from top to bottom. And reasonably priced, as well. We both ate for a little over $25.

Mrs Wease went back thru the line to get banana pudding and they ended up giving her a sample of their grits. Holy crow! Delicious. These employees are the absolute nicest people, too. One of the best restaurant experiences we’ve had in a while.

The banana pudding is wonderful. Hattie B’s - A+

Birthday dinner last night at Wayward Fare in Brooklyn.

When we first moved to the city, my wife worked with Chef Akhtar Nawab. He introduced me to grilled octopus, sweetbreads, and many other dishes that have become my all time favorites. Akhtar shaped my tastes more than any other NYC chef. And he's a great person.

He recently opened Wayward Fare in our neighborhood. We hadn't been yet, so we made a point to go last night (I used to go to his old place, Elettaria, on my birthday, before it closed -- it used to be my favorite restaurant in NYC). WF was so fantastic. Some of the best service I've had post-pandemic. Such kind, lovely people who care about food and hospitality. It was awesome. Of course, we chatted with Chef a bit. It was so great to catch up with him. He's so proud of this place, and rightly so.

We did the wood fired bread and mezze with eggplant, cheese and brouillade to start.

Then the grilled prawns, oven roasted oysters, and grilled white and green asparagus.

We shared the steak and potatoes.

Two cocktails each.

It was heaven. I can't recommend it enough. Akhtar is a goddamn genius.
