I hope that’s not how my post came across. The gay relationship episode in season one was great, and I like the addition of Joel seeing a therapist in this season. I’ll probably be fine with changes or not even notice them since I’ve only played the game once.

I just think you have to get the core characters right. Abby is meant to be jacked in an almost unsettling way. Ellie…I mean, why not just get Eric Stoltz to dig up his Mask prosthetic?

I think ultimately gamers are protective of characters. You can make a Red Dead movie that is mainly new stories, but you have to get Arthur Morgan right. This live action Zelda movie on Nintendo’s slate might be the company’s biggest misstep ever. The protagonist has never audibly said a sentence in any game for 4 decades. No idea how they’re going to pull that off without it being incredibly jarring.

I just don't think how hot you find Ellie matters at all. Is her attractiveness a core character trait? What does it matter? Ramsey absolutely killed it in season 1

The Abby complaint makes more sense to me but I don't know anything about that character

Attractiveness? Absolutely not. In game one, she’s a kid, and while Bella looks nothing like her, it worked for me in season one because Bella looks like a kid and can act. We’ve jumped five years in the story but only three in real life, and Bella is one of those people who looks much younger than she is - like Milly Alcock in House of Dragon, and I find it distracting and hard to believe. I personally find the Ellie character of part 2 to be repulsive. I don’t think she’s meant to be seen as attractive. I think she should actually be more nondescript. If Bella Ramsey robbed a gas station, 100% of witnesses would pick her out in any lineup. Ellie of the video games is pretty indiscernible, and I think that matters as much as Abby’s physique.

I understand why the fans of the video game could be angry with a lot of the choices from the series, it always happen. i dont know shit about the video game so im following this story and so far its compelling enough to watch it.

Bella is a good actress although i can see why its getting kinda fake if she needs to be seen as a threat or a super dangerous strong girl.

I guess the first ep kinda pointed out that by showing us how she was fighting that dude in the first scene of the new season. She is angry, she doesnt want to be seen as a kid, she is training enough to be a death machine.

In the first ep i kinda felt it was the same kid of S1 but angrier and way more selfish. So far its working for me, well see.

I knew that would happen at some point 'cause of game spoilers, but it still felt bad

I'm guessing we'll get more
Spoiler: show
Joel
from flashbacks throughout the season

Amazing episode of television. I was not thrilled with the prospect of a siege based on its absence from the game but they shot the hell out of that sequence. Bravo. WHERE THE EFF WERE THE DIREWOLVES DURING THE BATTLE OF WINTERFELL, D&D?!?

I’ll save most of my game-knowledge feedback (and criticism) for the spoiler tags.
Spoiler: show
As great as the episode was, the arc we’re about to go on for two seasons has been undercut by revealing so much about Abby and her motivations this early. You should HATE Abby and her crew right now and, while I expect the TV-only audience will be upset, I think they’ll partially understand why Abby did what she did here and not feel the same sense of loathing. It feels like Mazin and Druckmann—of all people!—are pulling their punches and I don’t understand why.

And, more literally, the killing blow Abby delivers in the game feels much more brutal.

Edit: I do wonder if the toxic fandom reaction to Abby and her actress before and during Part II’s release influenced their decision to garner a little more audience sympathy for her show version and Dever. I can’t necessarily fault them for that but it doesn’t serve the best interests of the story.
I’ll finish with this: if you had ever considered playing the games, Part II in particular, I highly recommend spending the next week doing so. They’re incredible and I fear the show is going to further diverge from their narrative in all the wrong ways, potentially robbing all of you of the story’s full impact. And I don’t suggest watching a compilation of all the cutscenes on YouTube; you need to spend in-game time with the characters to realize the full scope. This doesn’t mean the show can’t or won’t be great but, man, I’m scratching my head at the decisions here.

Surprised to hear the attack was not in the game. I thought it thrilling and nice that it didn’t fall into the cheesiness some other show may have resorted to.
