Yeah, there are some good ideas but Coogler fumbles the execution imo. There's no real sense of tension, no foreboding feeling, it all just feels very bland and kinda corny. And the moment it starts to pick up some steam it's interrupted by a long, torturous scene of dialogue. There's neither fun nor horror to any of it.

DROP! I was sitting there enjoying the shit out of this stylish, charming little thriller, marveling at the many little tricks it employs to amp up the suspense and put you in the characters' space -- the camera tilts, the cool dramatic zoom-outs, the playing with color, with depth of field, with diegetic sound-- as well as Meghann Fahy's brilliantly coiled performance. Loving this small, simple, FUN little story. Thinking "man, I'm totally giving this 4 stars on Letterboxd!"... and then the final act happens, and the movie surrenders to its worst impulses, and we get a couple extremely flimsy action scenes, and the filmmakers chicken out when confronted with the possibility of taking the story to some truly interesting places. Yeah. The last act is really bad. But I really enjoyed the rest of it. A lot!

Bring Them Down.
nah, if you are interested on this one just watch As Bestas. Superior in every level. Also Barry Keoghan is totally miscast here, he is playing a what 25 years old dude? and he looks 40 for christ sake.

Re: What movies are you watching?
yeah, thats a great one in terms of acting, tension, themes while this one is just very superficial. Kinda like the filmmaker saw As Bestas and ripped it off without actually knowing what is it about.Ms Harmless wrote:As Bestas was so goodVinylGuy wrote:Bring Them Down.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I decided I wasn't watching it based solely on how much I hated Bullet Traintragabigzanda wrote:I got about 20 minutes into Fall Guy and had to bail, it felt like a second rate Shane Black movie. Should’ve just watched The Nice Guys again instead.
