Re: 6-30: Alive vs. Strangest Tribe
Strangest Tribe is a cool little song. An interesting curio, and arguably the best xmas single in the catalog.
Alive, on the other hand, is arguably the greatest rock anthem of all time.

Re: 6-30: Alive vs. Strangest Tribe
Alive is great. I like it more than Strangest Tribe. But both of these songs should have been ousted round ago. So I'm going with Strangest Tribe because it's more interesting this late in the tournament than Alive.

I am sure it will turn around, but it is nice seeing “ST” with such a lead up front. It gets my vote.

"Alive" is the grander and more significant song in several ways, but truthfully I would rather listen to "Strangest Tribe" 9 times out of 10

I can't believe this is tied. I love it. A true underdog story taking a heavyweight down to the wire.

Alive has never made it past this point, I dont think. Its not an RM heavyweight.

I think it's just a group of hoity-toity PJ fans that are voting against "Alive" because it's what a true fan of the band/music would do, like subvert expectations or something.
Bah!

Nah, there are a lot of lesser-known PJ songs that get blown out of the water by heavyweights in these tournaments. For as much as Stip says that RM's tastes are anomalous relative to the rest of the PJ fanbase, nothing especially niche has ever won.blueviper wrote:I think it's just a group of hoity-toity PJ fans that are voting against "Alive" because it's what a true fan of the band/music would do, like subvert expectations or something.

"Strangest Tribe" is a really good song with an entirely different set of strengths than "Alive." I'm much more attuned to the latter's virtues at this point in my life, so it's an easy vote for me.

I'd say In My Tree is the most "niche" winner and that one required a specialized tournament to win.Kevin Davis wrote:Nah, there are a lot of lesser-known PJ songs that get blown out of the water by heavyweights in these tournaments. You count it as a winner. And it did win A tournament but it never won an official full MM tournament.stip wrote:but you acknowledge that it won…

Re: 6-30: Alive vs. Strangest Tribe
If I can imagine a Pit member wearing a homemade t-shirt featuring a song's lyrics, I don't count that song as niche. "In My Tree" -- along with other pseudo-spirituals like "Present Tense" and "In Hiding" -- seems custom-made for that experience.
The fact that "follow the strangest tribe" hasn't been repurposed as a corny 10C touring life slogan yet underscores its niche status. A real underdog here. I'm proud of it.
