Sure, but I don't think it's the arc from seasons 1-6 that people have an issue with.

Agreed, but PJ isn't the only classic to go off the rails at the end. I don't really have a problem with discounting the last season or two, especially considering the amount of episodes per year.

It's good TV all the way along, I wouldn't discard the last two seasons. It's still great, just not "magic".

Re: TV: The X Files
I should also mention that Michelle Rodriguez is cancer to me. what season does she show up in? I'll watch the ones before that.durdencommatyler wrote:Well, LOST has some wheel spinning, for sure, because of that issue. But the good news about that show is that the creators always envisioned and end. They wanted an end date ASAP and fought to wrap up the show. They wanted an announced five year run from the beginning. ABC negotiated into a six year deal, with seasons five and six being truncated.
Point is, the creators ended the show on their terms (for the most part). And they had a clear end in sight. If that's the only reason you didn't give that show a go, put your mind at ease and go watch it!

So this show has a cult following, there's no denying that. What some cult followings suffer from is blind appreciation. Does this show stand up well after so long? I am tempted to give it a nudge.

I started watching this a year or so ago and loved it. I only made it about a dozen episodes in before I stopped but that's only because I got distracted with other things. I've got to get back and pick it up again.

Re: TV: The X Files
first few seasons aren't as interesting as far as connected story lines, but otherwise they were fun. it's not until they start getting into the main plot that it becomes worthy of cult like following

Season Two. But you can't really skip anything on LOST. But you're supposed to hate her. So you'll love it!

Re: TV: The X Files
pretty much- basically, the earlier shows in the series were (to my memory anyway) more involved with establishing the show as weird, edgy, a little gory at times, and 'different' as a tv show - there really wasn't anything else like it anywhere that I can think of at the time - it was a must watch show every week.durdencommatyler wrote:I think she's talking about the mythology stuffHarry Lime wrote:goddamn itmalice wrote:your faceHarry Lime wrote:What do you think the main plot was?malice wrote:what??Harry Lime wrote:malice wrote:first few seasons aren't as interesting as far as connected story lines, but otherwise they were fun. it's not until they start getting into the main plot that it becomes worthy of cult like following

some of that effect isn't terribly interesting nowadays though-
the really interesting plot lines that began to bleed through every episode were what remained the most interesting and involving parts of the series, and I could watch those shows a hundred times without being put off by them.
