How concrete were plans for a summer 1994 tour?

Post by Captain Termite »

The conventional story now says that they cancelled a 1994 summer tour because of the Ticketmaster issue. Did they have actual dates and venues? Was it going to be a European or otherwise international tour? They already covered a good chunk of North America in the second half of 1993 and the first part of 1994. Is it revisionist history or a hoax?

I think it was definitely planned. I think Kurt’s suicide was the first thing that made them think about cancelling. Then they were still pissed at Ticketmaster. Then while they were recording, things got bad with Dave and it was decided they didn’t want another tour with him. The question is when did they decide Dave was out?

the irony now being that Boom has been with the band much longer than Dave but is still not allowed to participate in the group dental plan

This makes sense, it was all of those things that contributed to the plans being scrapped - and having it attributed to Ticketmaster was convenient and not a lie.

But it was just plans and not actual bookings I assume.

I’m not sure if anything was actually booked but it seems like they’ve said they were in talks with promoters and non-Ticketmaster venues. I’ve long assumed most of those were the venues they played in ‘95

According to this article, it was canceled because promoters wouldn’t violate their existing contracts with TM and alter the service charges.

It also said the band demanded ticket prices be no more than $18 and service charges be no more than $1.80. So a total max of $19.80 because Ed demanded tickets be affordable for their fans. Now the band is actively scalping their own tickets.
