not the point you were actually making. perhaps thr one i thought you were making.
to heal this rift between us might I suggest a shared listen of Off He Goes. Or My Father’s Son which, when you strip away all the artifice and noise, is really the flip side of the same coin.

My point is my point, not your point. But whatever. I'm sure my point is wrong anyway. You're right. My point is irrelevant.
i think we agree?
Yes, generally those run of records dont inspire nearly the same interest amongst the fan base as the records preceeding. outside RM gigaton probably gets included, sadly. But not for you.
though in terms of larger initial public impact outside the online fanbase those records were more successful than gigaton.

Oh, I have no idea. And I don't really care, if that makes sense. My posts never have anything to do with public perception or whatever. I'm just talking about my own personal experience. I can't speak to other's experience..

I leave that to others to decide
I feel like it'd be very slippery to gauge the public impact of any PJ album after the 90s. They've had one or two songs break through in terms of a radio single, but it feels hard to say any of their albums during that time have resonated outside their die-hard fanbase (which is totally normal I think for a band of their longevity that isn't trying to be U2).
Gigaton seems particularly impossible to understand how it landed for people; it came out in late March 2020 - literally everything from that month outside of COVID feels permanently memory-holed.
Yeah, I am not really sure what impact they’ve had since Yield. Just Breathe was a “crossover” hit. Apparently Future Days got some play because it was featured in a video game. And then they had a string of singles off Dark Matter that were near or at the top of the rock singles charts, which nowadays I am pretty sure is the equivalent of dominating the jazz charts.
