The Pillars games are on my list, but I’ve never played them. I only started to get interested in turn-based games after playing BG3, so it’ll take me a while to get to them all. Just from reading summaries, I know there’s some crossover, like my current quest is to go find a Watcher, which is what you played in those games.

I fired this up for the first time a few nights ago and immediately got bored when I was forced to carry a tree trunk at half a mile per hour.
What I’m realizing is most games of the past ten years just take some time to get into. Controls, story, character building, etc. I almost quit Red Dead 2 multiple times in the first 15-20 hours. In the end, I feel like if it was a smaller map, I would have loved it. There was just too much unavoidable travel. But it taught me patience.

God of War’s opening is crazy fast. Yeah, you cut down a tree and drag it home. Then you do a clumsy deer hunt. But then it is fucking on. Overwhelmingly. I’m really enjoying it. I hope I get good enough to finish it on the regular setting. It’s not looking good at the moment, but I’m optimistic.
You definitely level-up with noticeable gains as you go. You'll be able to bitch slap all the Valkyries by the end. Then it's Queen Valkyrie time - she's a toughie, but she's optional. No main story boss is overwhelming. You should be fine.
I finished the main story. I didn’t even really realize it was happening. I did the same thing with Tears of the Kingdom. I love how the game encourages you to keep doing the stuff you missed, particularly the Valkyries. I have killed one. The others I’ve encountered have mopped the floor with me. My blades are only at level 4, though.

Is the payoff for doing all the Valkyries worth it? I’m happy to continue exploring - I somehow missed a dragon - but I don’t need to 100% this thing. I really enjoyed it, though.

Edit: I’ve done a bit of reading. The consensus seems to be the queen valkyrie is super hard, but a sense of real achievement comes after hours of frustration and the impulse to throw the controller. The reward is incredible armor. I’ve decided not to pursue this. Why would I need amazing armor AFTER beating the hardest enemy? I hate shit like that.

I’m going to spend another weekend with this game just roaming around the realms and enjoying discovery. I may fight another Valkyrie or two, but I want my lasting memory of this game to be how much I enjoyed it rather than frustration.

Although i like most of the mechanics in Avowed, and everything runs great, and now that I’m deep in the second area and getting better loot and feeling like i can face most challenges…I am really out on the story. I’ve found myself skipping cut scenes and dialogue and it doesn’t have much if any impact on my enjoyment of or ability to follow the game.

I’m on the third area of Avowed and love it. Main story is last interesting part but combat, side missions and just general world design are all great, IMO.

Carrying over from Outer Worlds, I really like Obsidian’s approach of making smaller, more detailed areas as opposed to one giant world. My only complaint would be that traveling between them is not as easy as flying in your ship was in Outer Worlds.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is absurd, I already have more than 60 hours of game, all the side missions are interesting....they created such a cool world and the story is so captivating, I would say it's one of the best games of my life

I haven't felt this way playing a game in a long time, maybe since The Witcher 3

How hardcore are the gameplay systems? The immersiveness intrigues me, but not if it's too cumbersome or monotonous.

Its a bit hardcore, not for casual players and you cant rush the main story
But trust me, its way more acessible than the first one
If you mix the main and side quests you will be safe

I played this a lot last year but just kind of dropped it in November. I picked it up last week and enjoy playing it, but I get way too invested.

Did you play the card game? I'm totally new to it. The way blocking works took a minute to understand.

So far having luck with green/white decks with aggro tendencies. I'd love to learn how to manage more control decks, but I don't really have a great grasp of how a lot of these cards work yet.

I’ve never played a game of paper MTG, but I do collect cards. Started with LOTR and I’ve only skipped a few Universes Beyond sets.

I’ve got a bunch of different decks I pull out, almost all mono colored. My white is a token/life gain deck, green is elves, black is Nazgûl, and I don’t play it often but red is aggro. I also have a sliver deck that’s fun. Control is the one style I don’t usually play. I’d like to try an Eldrazi deck at some point, and that probably would’ve been my next one if my play hadn’t slowed down. I tend towards the green/blue precon standard decks. Oh: I also have an all-rats deck.

There’s been talk that a standalone Commander app is coming, which could be a lot of fun, but if your Arena cards don’t carry over it’d be a pain in the ass to collect them all again.

I enjoyed Dragon Age: The Veilguard more than I expected to based on the (dumb and mostly wrong) negative reception it's received. And it inevitably put me in the mood for an Nth playthrough of the Mass Effect trilogy, so I'm doing that now. Already on ME3.
