The superior wave to tree ratio is just another point in Lightning Bolt’s favor

Nice try! I've always hated Habit. That's not just today, my guy.
I acknowledge your disdain for Habit but don't understand it... you can have Lukin (slow) all to yourself though.

Re: No Code: Official Album Thread
I was thinking that No Code could be the band’s most experimental album, even though Vitalogy is the consensus pick. Hear me out:
Stylistic Diversity: No Code ventures into a broader range of genres—garage rock (“Hail, Hail”), worldbeat (“Who You Are”), spoken word (“I’m Open”), and psychedelic rock (“Red Mosquito”). It’s less cohesive than earlier albums by design.
Mood & Themes: It’s more introspective and fragmented, dealing with themes of spirituality, disillusionment, and self-discovery. It doesn’t offer the arena-rock immediacy of Ten or even Vitalogy.
Band Dynamics: The band was going through internal tensions, which fed into its risk-taking, unpolished approach. The looser, more organic production adds to the “anti-commercial” feel.
In contrast, Vitalogy is indeed weird—it has experimental interludes like “Bugs” and “Hey Foxymophandlemama, That’s Me”, but it’s still rooted more in punk, hard rock, and the grunge sensibility. Its experiments are more like odd detours, while No Code is experimental at its core.

Re: No Code: Official Album Thread
I think No Code was also a very different way the band was produced, in terms of how the album is mixed and how it sounds. Ed´s voice is kinda drown and the band sounds as Crazy Horse as it gets.
At least it was the first time that i thought of that, like where is ed?

The “de-Edification” of the band definitely led them into some interesting musical territory.

Maybe I should have said “the de-Edificatin in the mix,” meaning his voice is less central to the sounds, like VinylGuy said.warehouse wrote:i thought eddie vedder was the primary song writer of the album?BlakeWB wrote:The “de-Edification” of the band definitely led them into some interesting musical territory.

i think yeah, at least in how it was perceived at the time. Ed also began to change how he sang, that helped.BlakeWB wrote:Maybe I should have said “the de-Edificatin in the mix,” meaning his voice is less central to the sounds, like VinylGuy said.warehouse wrote:i thought eddie vedder was the primary song writer of the album?BlakeWB wrote:The “de-Edification” of the band definitely led them into some interesting musical territory.

de-edification plus Crazy Horse = bottom of the pack
(though that’s not true - like Stone, I recognize Binaurall is the true bottom.
I wonder where he ranks Lightning Bolt. Surely above No Code, at least.
