you should double down and say how you're all going to put the proceeds towards some shitty investment or ponzi scheme.

Re: Parents getting old
My dad (63) had a heart attack last night and was life flighted to a facility that could insert two stents into his completely clogged artery. He was conscious the entire time and is now in recovery, thankfully. I don't like these calls from my mother in the middle of the night. His health history is starting to read like a CVS receipt.
Between this and realizing most of my aunts and uncles are in the mid to upper 70s, it makes me both appreciate their long lives and dread the difficult roads ahead.

Re: Parents getting old
My best friend’s dad died a couple days ago. We’re both on a text chain with four other close friends, and I realized earlier that only one of us has a living dad now.

Has he had a heart attack before? They say if you survive the first, you have a good shot at surviving the others.Monkey_Driven wrote:My dad (63) had a heart attack last night and was life flighted to a facility that could insert two stents into his completely clogged artery. One of my grandfathers had like 9 of them, but my other one died by the first.

No, but he and his siblings are now 5/5 in all having one in their early 60s.BurtReynolds wrote:Has he had a heart attack before? Re: Parents getting old
My uncle died yesterday. He was 72. We were fairly close. My mother is completely heartbroken. It's her second sibling that has died in a year, and he was her youngest sibling. My dad died in 2009, and both of his siblings died in the 2010s. Not a lot left of the generation above me now, six including my mother, of people I've called aunt, uncle or a parent, and my mother at 77, the youngest one of those.
Two from the generation above them lasted to 101 years old, and both of those died a couple of years ago.

Re: Parents getting old
Sorry to hear about your uncle, Anders. I really feel for you mom too. I remember my 92 year grandpa talking about how everyone he ever knew that was older than him had died and now lonely that was. Re: Parents getting old
Thank you. Yes, that is heavy stuff. My uncle always lived in my hometown with his wife and kids, and we would celebrate Christmas together every year. He was a lovely man, loved by his family, respected and admired for his work. He always had a nice smile,, and a positive comment when you met him. He and my brother were especially close, and my brother sat with him his entire last night. My cousin arrived in the morning, after an early flight. He held his father's hand, and for the first time in days, his father's grip was really strong, squeezing my cousin's hand four times. My cousin then held his father, and told him, "I'm here dad, you can sleep now." And then his father died in his arms.

Re: Parents getting old
The silver lining to that has to be, that he lived a long life, and got to see his grandkids grow up, and his kids become parents. My dad always dreamed of becoming a grandparent, and never got to see it. But I do feel for your grandpa, in that either way, there are difficult aspects of it, having lost so many loved ones along the way.Monkey_Driven wrote:I remember my 92 year grandpa talking about how everyone he ever knew that was older than him had died and now lonely that was.

Re: Parents getting old
This has started to hit my dad. He and my mom will both be 77 this year. Out of all his old crew of buddies he only has 1-2 left and most of what’s still around are younger than him. His brother is younger and still around. Mema Wease has already lost both her brothers but all her sisters are still with us. Two older and one younger. Papa Wease has already been on depression meds for 10-15 years but I know this still bothers him. On top of having a child die. Neither of my parents have been the same since that and really how can you be?Monkey_Driven wrote:Sorry to hear about your uncle, Anders. I really feel for you mom too. Dad came for a visit and we bought a wakeboard boat. Late 60s and the old man is still getting out there.

Re: Parents getting old
Papa Wease texted me last night telling me he wants some sort of chainsaw deal for Father’s Day. It’s a bit pricy so he added I could check with my brother and go in halfsies with him if he’s not gotten him anything yet. So I say ok.
Then I text my brother. He hasn’t gotten him anything yet so we agree to get it. I’ll pick it up and he’ll pay me back for his half.
Papa Wease then texts me first thing this morning and tells me not to worry about getting it for him. He’s already ordered it online and we can just give him the money instead.

Re: Parents getting old
My dad is overseas - about 3 weeks ago I got a notice that his bank account was overdrawn.
I texted him “call me asap”
He just called yesterday to find out what the urgent issue is
