The many colours of the Baroness rainbow have been clicking with me big time for a while now.

The new Sepultura record is sounding good. The drumming is making me wet.

So you're a drumming guy? What do you think of Bran from Mastodon?

I think the Mastodon drumming is great, or what I've heard of it anyway (I've only heard Leviathan and a bit of Crack the Skye, and I saw them at Reading 2006 but it was so noisy I couldn't tell what was going on and I hadn't heard them before at the time). The drumming style isn't very full of frills, but it's certainly more complex than Lars Ulrich so it's fine.

I'm so glad I streamed this. It's a surprisingly intricate, atmospheric and diverse album.

Wait, Max left Sepultura? I knew there was a reason I left them alone.

Me neither. This is the only one I've heard and, as it turns out, probably a good one to start with.

I really like Mastodon but I wouldn't want to see them live. Their albums can be a brick wall of noise with zero dynamics I imagine live that's x100!!!!

The fuck? I like Soulfly okay, but he never rejoined? I assumed that there was no Sepultura without Max. Oh well, its just as well there are a thousand better bands to be worrying about.

Listen to that new one, though. The last time I liked a metal record that much, it was by Cult of Luna.

Mesh is such a sick band. Holy shit. I used to listen to them all the time but that was mostly due to a roomie I once had. Care to recommend any albums to jog my memory?

Obzen is fucking fantastic, that's really the only one I've listened to in full. It's so amazing though. So groove laden and well constructed.

What really irritates me about "heavy" bands being trendy among youngsters is that it's all really a joke in comparison to Meshuggah.

Meshuggah are fucking awesome. Their best albums are Nothing (re-issue) and ObZen.

yeah obZen is the record that really got me into Meshuggah so it's one of my favorites. Destroy Erase Improve is tits also. The new one is pretty fucking great as well.

The thing that i find really interesting about Meshuggah is how they write and record. It's so inorganic and mechanical but it seems perfect for the kind of music they play. They use a LOT of software modelling and drum sequencing which they get into on this doc that came with the special edition of Koloss. It's an interesting 25 minute watch if you have the time.

some pals of mine just released their first CD, and i did the artwork for it. the bass player also plays bass in my band.

give it a listen if you like Mustasch, Orange Goblin, and similar stoner-type hard rock bands.
