I think we can blame Diego for this one, though.

Maybe. I heard some comments from Gilroy recently that sounded like he expected more seasons, but it’d be a huge commitment for the star.epilogue wrote:Simple Torture wrote:GFY, Bob Iger@SkitchP wrote:I think that's honestly the most telling praise of the show... Tony's original pitch was 5. Diego wanted 3. Then Disney said 2 after 1's low numbers and high cost.Simple Torture wrote:Maybe. That seems to be what's going around the town.

I also wonder if Adriana kinda blowing up hurt things too. In terms of quantity. Bix got a bit sidelined this season and it's easy to wonder if her (and others') availability factors into only 2 seasons as well.

I really could be misremembering, but I thought they had decided on two before season one was even released. Gilroy and Luna realized to make a show of this quality was going to end up taking a decade for five seasons.

Yes, this is more or less my understanding/memory as well. But the budget was also a big factor. I think Lucasfilm wanted 3 when Diego said no to 5.@SkitchP wrote:I really could be misremembering, but I thought they had decided on two before season one was even released. I think the"low numbers" talk around the town is a retcon.

Yeah as far back as May of 2022 (6 months before the premiere) Gilroy was already saying it was only gonna be two. So well before Disney knew it would initially underperform. I don't remember ever seeing anything about it ever being conceived as 3 seasons

It was conceived/pitched as 5. Diego said no to 5. 3 was the initial compromised pitch. Everyone agreed to 2. And all of that happened before filming, I think.@SkitchP wrote:@SkitchP wrote:I really could be misremembering, but I thought they had decided on two before season one was even released. Re: Star Wars: Andor (Disney+)
Honestly if I could change anything it might be trim off one from the first two arcs of season 2, and add one more with the growing rebellion at Yavin for the first episode of the last arc (maybe a Cassian/Melshi/K2 mission, Mothma leading as Bail arrives, more talk about the distrust of Luthan), then do the Luthan/Kleya episode (and sub Willman for Melshi on it so there's a little more "who might die" tension).

This is shortly after Book of Boba Fett and right as Kenobi was starting, so that may have been the reason for the pull back.@SkitchP wrote:@SkitchP wrote:I really could be misremembering, but I thought they had decided on two before season one was even released. If it helps it was a link in a people article, and finding anything concrete on the Internet is a fucking chore now.epilogue wrote:It was conceived/pitched as 5. Honestly I believe Gilroy on it. I genuinely think they realized 60 episodes at this quality would take up their entire careers

She and Andor were last together about a year prior. That baby could be three months old, yeah?

Re: Star Wars: Andor (Disney+)
Would have been interesting but better this didn’t happen.
A deleted scene from ANDOR revealed that Mon Mothma could have trusted her husband Perrin all along, confirms writer Tom Bissell
"That was gonna be an interesting moment. Tony [Gilroy] performed it - Perrin just saying, 'I knew what you were up to. This whole time. They talked to me, every week they'd interrogate me, I never said a word. You didn't trust me. You could've trusted me.' And the heartbreak she would feel in that moment, of this guy that she'd pushed out could've been reliable. The double heartbreak of her walking away from her life, thinking she's dropping this deadbeat husband who never supported her, and then the double dagger stab... But that's head canon, that didn't happen."

Re: Star Wars: Andor (Disney+)
I give you the manifesto of Karis Nemik.
The Trail of Political Consciousness
There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy. Remember this. Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they've already enlisted in the cause. Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. And then remember this. The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that. And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire's authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege. Remember this. Try.
