Seems kind of bullshit to lock that thread. Folks paying a shitload for a show have the right to speculate why a band member abruptly left the stage.

Jeff is totally mad at Eddie OMG.
God, I was really hoping this was a rickroll.
Birds in Hell wrote:I don't think anyone, save Matt, would leave the band this late in the game. It's like a well-paying part-time job at this point: even if they didn't like one another, and I don't think that's true, it's not as though they're stuck in a tour bus together for two years at a time.

Maybe Jeff was just in a bad mood yesterday? It happens.
This. I'm sure the whole thing was much ado about nothing. There are so many possible explanations that it isn't worth anybody's time to list them here.
Birds in Hell wrote:I don't have any problem with them playing Rockin' in the Free World, it's like a hole-ridden jumper that you've had forever but can't bear to throw away. They've been playing it forever and there's something kind of traditional about them playing it last (or second-to-last) at this point - I'd prefer to hear it than Yellow Ledbetter, personally.
And once again, you prove to be my RM soulmate.

Finally, this is almost certainly a non-issue, but Pearl Jam without Jeff is not Pearl Jam. He's a founding member and the band would not be the same without him. Not even close.

PJOnline tweeted "No incident with Jeff. He ran backstage to take a shower and meet some friends".

During an unfinished performance? ;)

[quote="fishbob"]I dunno, I guess when I go and see a band I'd prefer it if they played their own songs. Especially when the covers aren't that different from the originals[/

I'm thinking the same, though I think they changed up Crazy Mary enough and I'd like to see them alternate that in as a closer.

Well, if that's true, then I for one am glad he's got his priorities right.

Obviously 'meet some friends' is code for 'audition for his new band'.

We were in section 213. All was fine most of the night when Ed on the fly decided to do band intros. When he got to Matt Cameron he was about to say “the best drummer in the world,” and cut himself off then said “there’s 2 great drummers here tonight,” likely referring to the Fugazi guy next.

After that, Ed went off on a pretty wide tangent and by the time he wrapped it up, he forgot to mention Jeff, and failed to the rest of the night. Then you had Ed focused on getting the Iowa t-shirt guy down (aka yellow shirt guy). To that point, Jeff showed no sign of upset from our distant seat.

But when RITFW was ending, he made it clear as you saw in the video. I’ve seen shows since ’98, and have never seen anyone depart like that. Only thing close to it I’ve seen is someone waive off doing Ledbetter at the end, like Cameron did at Columbia in ’08.

Jeff was clearly unhappy and walked right past Ed, taking off his monitors, then dropping the batter pack thing on Boom’s keyboard, so people could see. Did not waive to crowd or anything. Never seen him act that way.
I can't believe these guys are wasting blog space with this. Seriously? This is comically stupid.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

This incident is really nothing, but speaking as a former bass player for a band I can vouch for getting pissy when someone gets IN YOUR SPACE during a song. Yellow Shirt Man was clearly in the Ament position until he moved away, with Jeff back by his amp (yes I am aware he hangs out by his amp and Matt often...but maybe he wanted some spotlight!). Before that Jeff was even singing backup on RITFW still. I recall dozens of shows when some drunk ass gets up on stage in front of me (its always in front of the bass player isn't it?) and I would push him away or tell him to sod off from my bubble.

More than likely, if his rushing to get out and meet friends and family is to be believed, he probably got aggravated that the set ran a little longer than promised? Perhaps he told the boys he needed to get out by a certain time that night, and when the time came and went, we got pissy Jeff.
