Oh shit I left my can of worms unattended for too long.
I think women are and should be free to vote for whomever their husband tells them to vote for.
In actuality, I started to think after watching the game that I watched that a difference between the WNBA and the NBA may be that the best female hoopers may not actually go on to play pro. There's a long-established system for channeling talented male players into pro leagues that simply isn't as predominate for women yet because the league is in its relative infancy. I'd be curious to compare a championship-level NCAA women's game to a championship-level WNBA game wondering if perhaps some of the best women players graduate and go on to become doctors or lawyers or whatever and thus leave the pro spots open for second or third tier players.
As for peak sport, I just want to go on record to say that I kind of hate the NBA and am losing most of my like of the NCAA (at least D1). I think I'd be happiest watching something like a D3 game where it's still quality basketball but maybe minus some of the influence of NIL money, one and done bullshit, and overwhelming advertising for sports betting.

There may be something to this, but I also think the top tier players in the W are pretty fucking elite. No one can fuck with A1. She's unreal. My Liberty have four players that are either past MVP's or could be MVP's this season in Stewy, Sab, Cloud and JJ.
I'm curious, do you remember which game you watched? When was it and who were the teams? It's possible you just saw a bag game.
As a huge fan, I can tell you, I've seen some fucking terrible games.
We have a tendency to remember the best games and quickly forget the abysmal games if you're a big enough fan (says the guy who has attended 50+ very bad college basketball games).

That's very true. I think that's true across a lot of things --- like, concerts, too, for example.

That's another great question/point. Hopefully, the new CBA fixes that.
Is the issue that:
A) Owners aren’t sharing much of the revenue with players in the form of salaries;
Or
B) There isn’t enough revenue - ticket sales, TV ads, etc. - to pay the salaries that would compete with overseas money?
In other words:
A) Greedy owners?
Or
B) Lack of revenue / interest in the sport?
I think with the increase in interest in the league each year, and especially with the past year, it's A. We'll see if that's sustainable. But the W is having a major moment. The Fever v Sky game last Saturday was the highest rated W game in league history.
But I also always default to greed because it's America. These things are rarely one or the other. And, to be fair, it seems like the league is aware of all the elevated interest. We'll see what happens in negotiations.

It’s B. Just admit it.
I get that you have a specific agenda and you want a specific answer to justify your bias. But that's not clear yet regardless of how badly you need it to be. Sorry.

I dont know much bout WNBA, but here in Argentina, both basketball and soccer in their female leagues have been growing a lot, really fast these last 10 years from what it used to be. Its still very far from other succesful and marketable female sports like tennis, but its going there for sure.

Good!
If they can sell tickets then the players should get PAID!

But first you gotta sell tickets.
Thats impossible if you dont plan it long term. You have to build attention, get the players get ads, have a relationship with the fans...the female soccer world cup helped a lot, they even got it on tv.

Okay good. Then you agree. The league experienced record attendance and viewership last year. There's been a rise in sponsorship and ad revenue. There's a new 11 year media rights deal set to hit next year and the CBA is up for negotiation. You admit they deserve a raise given ticket sales so I'm not sure why you're in attack mode here.
The sport is growing. It's never been more popular o profitable. The league is expanding. They added a new team this year, and two more are coming. You make more per year than these professional athletes (at least the ones without State Farm commercials or Nike shoe deals). It's weird how badly you don't want them to get paid even a little more money.
That last line was genuinely supposed to be funny. It's clearly absurd and over the top. I would have added a little laughing or tongue out emoji but I didn't think it needed it. That's on me.
Genuinely sorry I offended you guys. That really wasn't the intent. Ivc, especially. I didn't mean that to come across the way it did. I apologize. And I want o thank you for starting this thread. It's long overdue.
Of course it's totally fine if you don't like the W. I'd encourage you to go to a game (especially in Brooklyn) if you get the chance. It really is a different vibe and a ton of fun.
Anyway, sorry again, team.
Nah, you can’t get away with that joke, or claiming it was. Too many examples of you accusing posters of being women haters.
