When they yell back "MEET ACCIDENTLY" it might be my favorite moment in Cake's whole catalog. Hell, it might be my favorite moment in any song of the 2000s.
I never cared for Cake. But they recently had a show in the area, and for a solid 4 months prior to it, I got absolutely assaulted by notifications to get tickets to the upcoming show. Nearly daily emails from multiple sources, and constant Ticketmaster mobile notifications and in-app pop ups in the Spotify app. I don't have a single Cake song saved in Spotify, and I imagine the only time I've listened to them was on some random subscribed 90s playlist I've probably left on shuffle.

So, I absolutely hate them now.

The Cake episode on the original run of "60 songs that explain the 90's" by Rob Harvilla is one of my favs.

I'm no connoisseur but I've liked every Cake song I've heard. They sound good and they don't seem to take themselves too seriously.

If you made me pick one (but like... why?), I'd also take the food pie over the food cake 9 times out of 10. But luckily we live in a world where we can have both!

I just learned about him doing the 2000s yesterday! I haven't listened yet, but I already marked the episodes I'll download for sure.

I feel stupid for never realizing how big of an influence Cream was on Queens of the Stone Age. That falsetto in "White Room" is a dead ringer for Homme's style.

Good call. I'd say Bruce's delivery in general and that track in particular is pretty spot on for Homme's methods. I was listening to a John Mayer interview the other day and Cream was one of the top bands, not just Clapton, that influenced him; thought to myself I really need to revisit those albums as it has been quite some time.

I guess so but not really?

Tenors are somewhat limited with what they can do in a heavy rock context, so they tend to sing operatically or in pretty contrast to the music.

It's like being left-handed in a genre full of right-handed people.

There are many more examples, but I'm biased because I'm in the same boat.

William Shatner's cover of "Common People" is a million times better than Pulp's original

Related: I like the music video version of "Bad Cover Version," with all the celebrity impersonators singing instead of Jarvis, more than the album cut
