I'm from St. John's, so having them end the tour with two nights in my hometown, surrounded by all of my best friends, is a live concert highlight for me. We were getting the bootlegs on the same day as well, so it was cool to listen to all the shows leading up to the finale.stip wrote:that's arguably their best tour. I have it at number 2

I need a top 5 of the things I don’t need to rank.

was listening to the (definitely superior) BoB mix of Avocado. Inside Job synched up with the end of the sunrise and I just had myself a little moment

I’ve read through most of this discussion and it’s made me think differently about this album. When I first heard it, it struck me as the first “Pearl Jam by the numbers” album—specifically, where it seems like they’re checking off all the boxes of what people expect from them. For that reason, I’m not sure I love the album, but there are some great songs out of the context of the record. I do like a lot of these songs’ live versions.

Love the end of Inside Job especially with that little bit after the main song.epilogue wrote:stip wrote:was listening to the (definitely superior) BoB mix of Avocado. Inside Job synched up with the end of the sunrise and I just had myself a little moment

I think that's Yield, TBH. But by the numbers is just a pejorative way of saying a band is leaning into its familiar/expected style. That can be amazing. It can feel overly familiar.Kalevi wrote:I think it is their first by the numbersBlakeWB wrote:I’ve read through most of this discussion and it’s made me think differently about this album. I don’t think “by the numbers” means “leaning into the familiar.” I take it to mean “adherent to the past.” Obedient to trail markers that you placed there yourself. And it doesn’t really apply to either album.stip wrote:I think that's Yield, TBH. But by the numbers is just a pejorative way of saying a band is leaning into its familiar/expected style. This album is like the fruit it’s nicknamed after—tough on the outside but soft and rich once you dig in. It’s raw, not overly polished, and not everyone’s taste, but it was a fresh, energetic return for the band after a quieter stretch.
