There is a fox in me . . . a silver-gray fox . . . I sniff and guess . . . I pick things out of the wind and air . . . I nose in the dark night and take sleepers and eat them and hide the feathers . . . I circle and loop and double-cross.

There is a hog in me . . . a snout and a belly . . . a machinery for eating and grunting . . . a machinery for sleeping satisfied in the sun—I got this too from the wilderness and the wilderness will not let it go.

There is a fish in me . . . I know I came from salt-blue water-gates . . . I scurried with shoals of herring . . . I blew waterspouts with porpoises . . . before land was . . . before the water went down . . . before Noah . . . before the first chapter of Genesis.

There is a baboon in me . . . clambering-clawed . . . dog-faced . . . yawping a galoot's hunger . . . hairy under the armpits . . . here are the hawk-eyed hankering men . . . here are the blonde and blue-eyed women . . . here they hide curled asleep waiting . . . ready to snarl and kill . . . ready to sing and give milk . . . waiting—I keep the baboon because the wilderness says so.

There is an eagle in me and a mockingbird . . . and the eagle flies among the Rocky Mountains of my dreams and fights among the Sierra crags of what I want . . . and the mockingbird warbles in the early forenoon before the dew is gone, warbles in the underbrush of my Chattanoogas of hope, gushes over the blue Ozark foothills of my wishes—And I got the eagle and the mockingbird from the wilderness.

O, I got a zoo, I got a menagerie, inside my ribs, under my bony head, under my red-valve heart—and I got something else: it is a man-child heart, a woman-child heart: it is a father and mother and lover: it came from God-Knows-Where: it is going to God-Knows-Where—For I am the keeper of the zoo: I say yes and no: I sing and kill and work: I am a pal of the world: I came from the wilderness.

My little girl (who is 16) has started exhibiting concerning health issues that lead me to believe the time is near. My wife and I cried about it a lot last night. I knew this year was going to suck very badly.

Condolences. What health problems is she having?

She got diagnosed with chronic kidney disease after vomiting a lot. We switched to a special diet and got medicine for her, but last night she started refusing food altogether - including her favorite treats she always goes crazy for. We're gonna talk to the vet some more to see what else we can try, but refusing to eat seems like a big signal to me.

Thanks, guys. Just got word from the vet that she also has a bacterial stomach infection that could explain the refusal to eat, so they're going to come over soon and administer some medication to help with that. Hopefully that will restore her appetite.

I hate all of this. Been crying all day. Really, really hoping this new medication works.

Our cat stopped eating because we found he had a cracked tooth, he would just walk up to the bowl and walk away again.. the vet took it out and he was eating again the next day.

Cats stop eating for different reasons, but if the medication works she should eat again. Hopefully it’s ok

So the stuff the vet prescribed to get her eating again is not working. They're coming over today to give her an anti-nausea shot as a last ditch effort. If that still doesn't work...we're essentially looking at the end. Fuck.

I'm supposed to be going to a concert on Sunday and my wife has a 2-day work trip on Monday. I don't know how the fuck those things are supposed to happen with this going on.

Is it possible it just takes a second for the infection to clear? I actually think I had this happen to a cat. I was confused at first but he was fine in the end.
