Some perspective on why that won’t work:

As an example, the Mariners’ stadium seats 45,000. The AAA Rainiers’ stadium seats 6,500.

Yeah, stadium size was in the back of my mind even as I was writing that. The whole system is already pretty far down the road it's on for sure. Maybe the best we could hope for is not relegation but something that would force ownership groups to sell if a team is garbage for too long. Some kind of accountability for putting a good product on the field, not just technically fielding a team just so you can have a TV contract and sell some tickets when the Dodgers or Yankees are in town.

But also, in a weird way, prioritizing the in-stadium audience over the TV audience could also help (i.e. lower ticket prices and merch prices to attract a stronger in-person fan base, put home games on local over-the-air channels instead of cable). More people in the stadium could bring energy to the actual game that players play and could maybe add an ancillary incentive to high caliber talent to go to teams that might not write the biggest checks. "We can't pay you Dodger money, but our stadium is always packed and every kid's going to have your jersey on."

Hunter Greene has that mentality. Chipper Jones had it. Just wonder if there's anything to be done to cultivate more of it.

no kidding..I was watching that kid throw from LSU in the college World Series and he's pumping it at 102..that was unheard of back in the day..you had to juice up the jugs gun to face that..
